Solid performance by veteran rocker Bob Seger in the Chicago stop of his current tour. I had never seen him before, and I must say that I was impressed with his showmanship and the quality of his vocals. Although he certainly *looked* his 68 years of age, his voice sounded exactly like he did in his late 1970s/early 1980s heyday.

The setlist was a hit factory, with virtually everything drawn from the early 1970s with a sprinkling of his '80s hits and a handful of current tunes. He introduced "Like a Rock," for audience members who were less than 26 years old, as a song he hadn't performed live during their lifetimes; I'm not sure if this was a tour debut, but it sounded great and inspired me to go out and buy a Chevy truck. A highlight, for me, was the cover of Wilco & Billy Bragg's "California Stars" -- though interestingly enough, he didn't seem to be aware that a local band was involved in the recording (he alluded to the fact that the lyrics were written by Woody Guthrie, but didn't reference Wilco at all). He does a credible version of the song, though I prefer the "original" version by Wilco.

In terms of sound quality, I was a little too close to the stage to catch the full effect of the overhead PA, and needed to improve upon the high and low ends using Audio Cleaning Lab. Overall, this is a very clear recording but lacking "punch"; I was fortunate in that there wasn't any crowd interference close to my mics, but there were a couple guys nearby chatting throughout the show that can be heard in the background at quieter points of the show. Overall, this is a very listenable, enjoyable recording, but I'm sure there will be better documents that surface eventually from this tour.

Download if you're even a casual fan who's curious about the current tour, and don't forget to buy his studio and live releases.

There are no fades on this file set, so the CD breaks (for those who still burn to CD) are merely a suggestion - you can split discs wherever you want.

Great show, very nice recording.
Standard set list for this leg of the tour apart from the surprise encore of Opera Star.
(First performance since Rotterdam 21 June 2001 and only the second time played since Costa Mesa, CA 13 Aug 1987.) Third performance of the great new song Hole in the Sky.

Neil closed each show of his 2009 Australian tour by playing 'A Day in the Life'. This time around each show was opened with that same song played over the PA while the road cases on the giant amps were lifted off and the lab-coated scientists checked all the equipment. I had doubted that Neil would bother to return here after that previous tour. While he was warmly received by the kids at the Big Day Out festival shows on that leg, the 3 arena shows in between saw Neil bemused and upset by the luke-warm response of those 'fans' seated up the front with their arms folded throughout the show. In Brisbane he made fun of these people by mimicking them and in Sydney he cut the show short and left.

In Waging Heavy Peace, Neil talks about devising his 'festival seating' plan for future shows whereby the floor in front of the stage is general admission standing with seating behind and around this.
Neil explains his frustration at having the people who can afford the most expensive seats down the front not enjoying the show and not giving any energy back while the real fans behind them are enjoying the show. Well I would bet that Neil came up with his 'festival seating' idea soon after or during his 2009 Australian tour. It's use in Brisbane had the desired effect with those who actually wanted to enjoy the show down the front giving plenty back to the Horse and those who just wanted to hear Heart of Gold sitting frustrated out of Neil's sight with their fingers in their ears.

Neil really seemed to enjoy this show. Obviously he loves playing with the Horse but the enthusiastic crowd response no doubt played its part too. Great to see Neil wearing his Aboriginal flag t-shirt which he has also sported on recent TV appearances such as Letterman and The Daily Show.

EX Audience recording ... just fantastic sound (considering the rig, of course) .. really rich and nice bass bottom...

Another dusty mini-disc transfer to digital, and this one is just really a real beaut friends... samples included. Everyone was feelin' it on this night.. Jackson Browne opened
with a great set, as always, and I will get around to getting that up here as soon as I can... nice recording as well. Really, really sweet performance by Tom and boys in a nice
sounding theatre (since torn down) ... in support of that most-excellent The Last DJ release... ah, such good memories..

This recording easily represents one of my best overall concert experiences, and way, way up there as one of my favorite captures in my concert recording *career*.
I do not recall if I have shared this before... too much clutter in me mind... but if you don't recognize this torrent, you should really enjoy this recording... on a nice long
car ride with the top down on a hot summer day.

I labelled this one "The Kid Goes Bad" because that actually happens, while Tom and the boys were PLAYING the actual song.. sounds crazy I know, but you'll just have to trust me.
Hint : I was out from Atlanta, flying solo, and I suppose had one or two too many cocktails at the pre-show Blackjack tables, and as a result, I had to run to the W/C during the song.
And thankfully no, I'm not the kid that went bad and no, it's not as horrific as it may sound, just an extraordinarily funny and well-timed concert moment.. I dunno, perhaps you
just had to be there...

** A Mr. Railing recording**

Here's the first night of a five night stand with Tom Petty at the Beacon Theater. I used putty and attached the mics to a ledge above an exit/entrance passage. I started with a 30" mic split, but by track 8 people were touching the wires and I was in their space, so I had no choice but to move the mics and finished the show off with an 8" split. Through it all, the recording came out with only some close claps (more noticeable during the first 8 tracks), but no crowd singers or talkers! Not my best rail recording, but overall very enjoyable. I found some pics online and included them. Good news is I'm back on Sunday for the last show and have a closer railing all to myself. Enjoy! Mr. Railing

Review by: Alan L.(Taken from
Good solid show with Van in excellent voice; he played lots of sax in the early stages, more guitar later on. "Have I Told You Lately" and "Precious Time" out of the way early on. Georgie Fame guesting on "Vanlose Stairway". The show really took off towards the end with a really excellent "In The Afternoon>Ancient Highway>Raincheck>Joe Turner Sings", then "And The Healing Has Begun" taking us up to the 90 minute mark. Van then returned to the stage for a couple of "bonus tracks", "Help Me" and "Gloria". An enjoyable concert. While there's a chance of performances like the "In The Afternoon" medley, I'll continue to go to these shows.

Enlight note:
Thx to Alan L. for the review and vanomatic.
credits to the original taper/uploader.
Excellent sound , good performance by the whole band.
A more eclectic set, Van plays the sax a lot at the start of the set, later he switch more to guitar.
A "funny" moment is that during the end of Mystic church, Van has the band playing as soft as they can,
the stage lights falls and Van "sneaks" from the podium, a kind of vanishing to trick the audience,
It could have been quite cool had he not bumped into the bass player, dropped the microphone with a crash, which gave a hard noise through the Hammersmith apollo.................luckely he did came back for the encore.

I recorded this years ago but managed to obtain a remastered version in a trade from someone in Europe who had somehow fixed up my master to sound a shitload better. As a result I am uploading this version - not my mediocre original. This sounds way better! Not sure about the accuracy of the setlist as it was done in the remastering process.
As with any Virgil gig - it was technically flawless and jaw-dropping.

Some volume fluctuations in "Dazzle" - I suppose the taper needed to adjust volume as soon as the song explodes. Otherwise great sound. Great performance - highlights are "We Hunger" (flawless deep voice), "Desert Kisses", "Into The Light", "Red Light", "Christine", "Monitor" - don't think I've ever heard better versions of these songs. The live version of "Desert Kisses" sounds like the demo version included on the Kaleidoscope remaster (though played live obviously) and "Into The Light", stripped of its backing vocal, sounds like the Peel Sessions version.

This fileset is based on the release known as T-308, which I edited for my own purposes 4-5 years ago, and am now distributing for the first time. To the best of my recollection, the following things were done:

1. The original release ran significantly slow. This has been corrected, though I don't remember the exact percentage.

2. T-308 was also missing about 3 minutes of music from the beginning of Any Colour You Like. This has been patched using a different source of the same recorder, from an unknown-gen tape transferred to CDR. The recording used for the patch is in mono, and required speed correction as well to match the speed-corrected T-308; I also suspect it has some NR.

It's not a seamless transition by a long shot, especially the crossfade into the patch, but the crossfade back into T-308 came out pretty well, I think.

3. There was some sort of digital glitch at the end of On the Run. This has been corrected, but the abrupt ending of Disc 1 (and transition into Disc 2) was on T-308 and is still present.

Nothing else has been changed, and no EQ, dehissing, or other "remastering" processes have been used. I've tried to keep the track breaks roughly the same as they were on the T release, but I did add one for Breathe (Reprise) which wasn't tracked individually on T-308. And of course, I encoded the finished files as FLACs rather than SHNs; even with the added music this release is over 100MB smaller than T-308, thanks to the more efficient FLAC compression.

I know that T asks his releases not be tampered with or "remastered", but given the speed problem and missing music on T-308, I'd like to think my work on this is an excusable upon the original. In any event, T-308 came out ten years ago, so I think the statute of limitations has run out!

This release isn't intended as an archival reference, but as a listening copy for enjoyment. Since the taper had problems with one of the mics dropping out, many copies of this show are strictly in mono, including a very low-gen source I received a while back that I might torrent as well. The stereo imaging on T's tape makes a huge difference, though, and really gives added life and depth to the recording.

And most importantly of all, this is one of Pink Floyd's best performances of all time, IMHO. Even Roger remarks on what a great gig it is with which to end the tour! It may literally be the very last time that the band ever had such a quiet, attentive crowd, and it makes a big difference.

I think this is the best DSOTM I've ever heard, hands down. Almost no other performance captures the feeling of the album so well, while at the same time it's not a slavish reproduction of the LP, and there are extended jams like the one on ACYL (now restored to its full length). The first set material is about as good as it can be in this embryonic state, and the version of Echoes is far more inspired than most later performances of the song. Simply put, the band is at the top of its game.

And T's tape complements the whole thing perfectly. It's by no means hi-fi, and some people may find that there's not enough top end for their tastes, but something about the acoustic makes me feel like it's 1975 and I'm sitting in my living room, listening to a quality vinyl bootleg of a great show I just attended.

Thanks to T for his original release, and to the band for all these years of great music!

Fantastic Scorpions set from Uli, my second time seeing the maestro himself live in just under six months - I couldn't miss the opportunity to see him playing a full Scorpions set.

This was a fantastic gig in a small, intimate venue, a 2 and a quarter hour set recorded just in front and to the left of the mixing desk.

Besides doing a fade in/out at the beginning and end of the night, the only other edit was to remove about two minutes of my other halfs' drunken wittering at the start of the encore break. Normally, I would prefer to share the full recording uncut but believe me, in this case a small edit was a major enhancement to the overall listening experience

One more of the Euro/UK shows on what would be the last Van Halen tour with Roth until 2007. A pretty short set, probably the shortest since 1978, although there may be a few minutes missing from this recording. Love Roth's line "I can hear that old Swiss ryhthm now baby!" at the beginning of "Hot for Teacher." A nice recording overall, the UK/Euro tapers made some of the better recordings of the 1984 tour.

Tuesday, April 02, 2013, Sydney Entertainment Centre,

Equipment: Tascam DR-07 MK II using the internal microphones.
Location: 18 rows behind the Soundboard.
Sound Quality: Good.

The decision was made to include the complete set (01. - 09.) by Rufus Wainwright (who was the opening act), as well as the complete Intermission as i felt it added to the overall atmosphere of the show (for me anyway).
The same recording level was used throughout the entire concert, which will explain why Rufus Wainwright and his set is lower in volume than Paul Simon and his show.

NOTE: Bonnie Raitt appears as a guest vocalist on "Pretty Thing (1955) - (Bo Diddley)" with Paul Simon.

remaster note
Applied EQ for reduce very low range sound and lift up high range.

The first time ever, Ozzy Black Sabbath in Japan. The festival setlist is rather short but condensed greatest-hits with new one. Excellent.

After the beautiful Tool performance, I walked back to the PA section and saw Black Sabbath at about the middle of the large venue. Stage was far away but the sound balance was better than Tool (maybe depends on the taping position).

Unfortunately, there was a loud clapper behind me and there's loud hand clap here and there. Except for that, the sound quality is pretty good.

This was taped by SxPxDxCx and first uploaded to Dime by ZekeRnR on May 8, 2007 (SEE HERE), many thanks to them (possibly it's one and the same person, I do not know). I only rarely give an "Excellent plus" rating to an AUD recording, but IMHO this recording really deserves it. AMAZING sound! This is surely one of the best recordings of the 2007 tour, mabe THE best AUD recording?* I do not have them all, and I will never find the time to listen through all of them, so others might be better able to judge this.
"After All (The Dead)" fades in (but close to the beginning of the song, so not much is lost). Possibly I re-named the tracks at some point, plus I added new fingerprints, a zoomed picture of the frequency spectrum (looks perfectly lossless) and this re-upload info - nothing else was changed by me.

* Talking about EX+ ratings, I am looking for two other recordings of the 2007 tour which are said to have EX+ sound, see the following requests:

The quality of the music is good to very good,in the beginning there are a lot of mics tuning noise. The show was in a very small venue in front of only a few people and you hear mostly between the songs some noise from the audience, some political statements a lot of "BUH" & SCHEISSE(SHIT) shouters.Absolutely rare performance by these three artists. Brian Eno plays fantastic electronics and synthezizer during " Das Lied Der Deutschen"John Cale has his hottest moments when he plays viola to Nico`s voice and pump organ.Very rare tracks and versions of great music.I had a lot of work with that tape,I removed some clicks and noise, fade in and fade out some tracks,a little bit equalizing and work with the channel,I hope you like it,it`s another rare document of music history and the Brian Eno work during some songs is worth the download. "The End" is hypnotic with Brian Eno`s electronics,John Cale played a great piano and superb violin to Nico`s excellent voice and the sound of her pump organ. And for all Dolby surround fans a WARNING ,this is audience and not perfect,a lot of crowd noise and riot in the audience, a controverse show , most of the people in the audience hate the show and you have some loud shouters.

The first recording was recorded at a very high level, there's some brickwalling. I reduced volume and I did a little equalizing. Then I mixed it together with the second source. The result has some more dynamic range and sounds fairly better to me.
