Here is an excellent but incomplete soundboard tape from the Sheik Yerbouti tour. Of special interest is the unedited "White Person" improv that is free of the heavy echo that Frank applied to the official version in order to mask a ton of edits. So much for 100% live!

Deutschlandhalle
SBD Low Gen / AUD MC (jaypfunk-Drew51-Dog Breath-WIU2B-flambay-mudsharknyc)
THIS IS THE FIXED FINAL VERSION with SBE's APPROPRIATED
IF YOU DOWNLOADED THE PREVIOUS FILE then you do NOT have to necessarily download this new version, you can simply fix the SBE's yourself when decoding the FLACs and get the same result here, although the fingerprints will change from those listed in the previous torrent upon fixing. Pardon any inconvenience.
(Note from ZP: If you downloaded this prior to midnight EST on Saturday (0500 GMT), you'll have to rename the folder to 1978 02 15 Berlin DE SBD AUD (jpf-D51-DB-WIU2B-fl-mnyc) - in other words, get rid of the word "FIXED". After that, everything should be great!)
Arrow JAYPFUNK LOW GEN SBD TAPE / DREW51 2011 NEW TRANSFER
This 2012 entry marks the long awaited return of the 1978 02 15 Berlin SBD recording to FZ Shows thanks to the generous tape contribution by jaypfunk and professional 2011 tape transfer by Drew51. This fresh transfer from JPF’s low generation SBD tape has been speed corrected and patched to completion using the excellent DogBreath AUD MC recording for fills (thanks to the generous tape contribution by DogBreath and professional 2012 tape transfer by WIU2B). The entire performance runs 153 minutes and 39 seconds and although the SBD tape does exhibit the element of tape hiss, it is an excellent solid A grade listen representing the best sounding version of the SBD tape acquired & assembled for FZ Shows to date. Enjoy this historic FZ time capsule performance of 34 years + past, presented to FZ Shows @ Zappateers this Leap Day 2012.
Arrow SOURCE INFORMATION
The SBD source tape used herein is indeed the same tape source used to provide the 2005 jaypfunk FZ Shows entry, which has long since been archived here:
1978 02 15 Berlin Germany SBD (jaypfunk)
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1420
The archived version was an excellent sounding transfer, although incomplete. It contained solely the SBD source (warts and all) yet also carried with it a sizeable mystery cut during the first verses of Yo Mama. The tape also required further speed correction to run at the proper pitch. Thankfully, a fresh transfer was granted. This new transfer of the low generation cassettes revealed a complete Yo Mama intact further benefited by being fully speed corrected along with countless millisecond glitches appropriated. For those who may ponder, yes, the exact same millisecond glitches appear on the jaypfunk 2005 version, so these glitches were nothing new to these excellent sounding source tapes.

Arrow SHEIK YERBOUTI PERFORMANCE NOTATION
This show yields 2 performances that were subsequently issued in drastically edited form on Sheik Yerbouti. The first being “Rat Tomago” in all it’s unedited glory, which appears as part of “The Torture Never Stops” performance. The second being “The Shiek Yerbouti Tango” in all it’s unedited glory, which appears as part of “Little House I Used To Live In” performance. It is indeed fascinating to experience these selections in their original context and lengthy form. Tonight’s show also highlights much of the material that would eventually come out with the release of Sheik Yerbouti. Hence, a superb performance of the developing material. Belew's finest "Flakes" moments could also be in this very show as he is allowed to conjure up an expanded seagull guitar section toward the end, where the end lyrics "we are millions & millions" have yet to be applied. A little more than a year following this performance & tour, the SY album was released (March 3rd, 1979) as the first release on Zappa Records. Most of the basic tracks were recorded from the live shows of this very band from this very tour whose journey began on 1977 09 08 at Arizona State University Activity Center, Tempe, AZ, USA and stretched 6 months spanning 10 countries through 1978 02 28 Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK. At the time of this performance, Terry Bozzio & Adrian Belew had but only 8 performance dates remaining with FZ. Belew was signed up with FZ solely for this tour, while Bozzio had been a veteran of the three prior consecutive FZ tours. Additional notes from pbuzby: According to Belew's blog http://elephant-blog.blogspot.com/2007/08/anecdote-37.html (a very interesting blog post for Zappa fans), the first show was 1977 09 08 in Tempe AZ (appearing corrected in the text above). Incidentally, it is presumably during the Yo Mama solo of this very Berlin show that Adrian Belew was offstage and met up with David Bowie, leading to Belew's departure from FZ's band.

Notes by the uploader/trader:
In 1998 I was fortunate to obtained the use of these tapes. They are 1st generation, direct professional VHS dubs from the masters. I then had the 1st gen tapes professionally duplicated. These were then distributed to 6 other established FZ collectors. Any footage you have seen of these films prior to this DVD are at best, 2nd generation.
In the spring of 2006, I again secured the use of the 1st gen tapes, and this is the result. A direct transfer from the 1st gen tapes. Unedited.
These were professionally shot in one day. The date was Sunday, February 14, 1988. NOT February 12, 1988 as it is sometimes listed as. It is unknown where the original tapes are, could be they were recorded over, could be they are in the camera mans closet. I am told that they were NOT given to Frank. Nor were they ever lent to anyone else. The first 33 minutes of disc-1 are from the camera mic. The last 22 minutes are a feed from the soundboard.
Disc-2 is the 2nd camera and uses on camera mic, this will contain duplicate material from disc-1, but is shot from the front of the stage. I have not edited these in any way. There will be times when the camera man stops recording and then resumes.

Frank Zappa - 1979-02-12 - Manchester, UK (SBD/AUD/FLAC)

(Soundboard/Audience FLAC)
12-Feb 1979, Apollo Theater, Manchester, England
133 min, SBD, A+
150 min, Aud, B+
The SBD cuts in Pound For A Brown. Persona Non Grata, Dead Girls Of London, I Ain't Got No Heart, Brown Shoes Don't Make It, Cosmik Debris, Tryin' To Grow A Chin, City Of Tiny Lights, Dancin' Fool, Easy Meat, Jumbo Go Away, Andy, Inca Roads, Florentine Pogen, Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?, Keep It Greasey, The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing, For The Young Sophisticate, Wet T-shirt Nite, Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?, Peaches En Regalia, Yellow Snow Suite, Strictly Genteel, Montana, Pound For A Brown, Mystery Rehearsal Piece (incl. Deathless Horsie, Five-Five-Five)
This version: 149:00 min, SBD/Aud, A+/B+
Lineage: SBD->?->CDR->EAC->SoundForge (retracking)->FLAC Frontend
The SBD is used up through 8:58 into Pound For A Brown, from there on it's from an Aud tape of unknown generation, with a whole lot of compression on it. Throughout the board recording, the levels are very high, and clipped peaks are in abundance. Strangely enough, I'm not sure this has harmed the sound quality, which is among the best you'll ever hear on a Zappa boot. This version doesn't have any of the problems that previously circulating copies had.

This collection was lovingly compiled from several painfully fragmentary soundboard tapes. I thought it would be fun to present the highlights of these tapes as a coherent setlist. Vinnie makes this band, as far as I'm concerned, and I kept his performances in mind when picking the versions to include. Sound quality was also a factor and it ranges from good to excellent. Some of these tapes seem to have been made while someone was fiddling around with multi-tracks, so there are anomalies in the mix here and there, but nothing too distracting. Remastering consisted of EQ, limiting & sometimes some compression to smooth out the mix. Only the Dallas tracks suffer from excessive noise reduction (unfortunately applied by the original surfacer). None of the performances on this set have been officially released. All in all, it's a nice companion to the official releases "Tinseltown Rebellion" and "Buffalo".

notes
Here is the best sounding recording from Frank Zappa's 1975/1976 world tour. The recording has an incredible stereo image and sounds similar to Frank's own recording of the show, which is also largely ambient. Here you can find the complete performance of "Black Napkins" as heard on "Zoot Allures". Another amazing thing about this show is that it was recorded with two staggered recorders, so it is is 100% complete! The main recording is used for the bulk of the show, and a backup recording was used to fill in a reel change at the end of "Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?". Superb sound, complete performance, it doesn't get any better than this, folks!

Several years ago, and old tape trader buddy - who wishes to remain anonymous - sent me all of his Zappa tapes. He mostly traded in the late 70s and early 80s, and most of the stuff was high-ish generation copies of the most common and widely circulated shows. There were a few rare gems marked "do not trade," but this was before I found Zappateers - which made most of these items irrelevant. So for the past few years I have scarcely given these tapes any thought.
Well, a couple of weeks ago I acquired a new cassette deck (the below-mentioned CR-3A). I was playing a few tapes in it, to check out the speed and mechanics of the machine, when I grabbed a tape innocently (mis-)labeled "Hammersmith 26-2-78." I popped it in the machine, assuming it was the circulating audience recording. I quickly realized it was not.
So, what IS it? Well, I thought it would be interesting to make up a story about it and introduce a new legend into the FZ-trader community (the mix is a bit Adrian-heavy, so maybe it's Adrian's monitor mix, and I got it from a guy who used to work for Adrian), but really I have no idea where this came from. I asked the guy I got it from, and he has no idea either (he's not being secretive, he just doesn't remember). But hey, it's a previously uncirculated soundboard recording with six tracks that are missing from the audience tape. What more do you want? Oh, you want it patched with the missing bit from the audience source? Okay, flambay will do that for you, and he'll make it run at exactly the right speed too.

Frank Zappa & The Mothers - The Fillmore 1970 Tapes (SBD/FLAC)

(Soundboard FLAC)
REMASTERING NOTES:
All 3 discs have been re-equalized and volume fluctuations smoothed over. There was no NR or compression done to these recordings.
Disc 1 has a tape flip during Track 07 that has been smoothed over.
Disc 1 has an unknown fill during the "bull*censored* chant" at the end of Track 10.
Disc 1 originally had clicks between tracks. These have been removed.
Disc 2 crudely switches sources during Track 13. The original lineage doesn't explain this. This section has been remastered and smoothed over to better fit in with the rest of the show.

(Soundboard FLAC)
Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention
Palais Gaumont
Paris, France
1970 12 15
~~ From 3rd gen soundboard recording ~~
An upgrade to our current version, and possibly the lowest generation available. Here's what my source, LC, told me about it:
"The board of the MOI at Gaumont Palace, Paris, 12/15/70 originated from the KSAN FM tape archive. A friend had access to their tape library and ran a copy. I’m relatively certain that is how that board surfaced."
The tape suffers from some drop-outs, especially the first minutes. I experimented with removing them, but decided to leave them as they were.
