Elton performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for this event. I believe this was Davey Johnstone's first show with Elton (none of the band performances are included here, however, but three are included on the "Elton 60" DVD). This is a "must have" for any serious, or casual, Elton John fan.

14 Rock N Roll Star (inc false start)

Here's a recording of mine which I recorded over 10 years ago direct from a Radio 1 broadcast through my Hi-Fi onto my computer. I recorded that broadcast simultaneously via a 10 metre length cable conected to both the Hi-fi tuner at one end and plugged into the back of my sound card/computer at the other. It was recorded as a continuous Wav file using the program "Syntrillium". I then used the same program to normalise the entire wav file (without clipping), and to then divided it into the various tracks. I then burnt those wav files onto a master cdr. The quality is awesome with the best version of Rock n Roll star ever... A+ all the way. As a Man City fan I love the line, "I live my life for Man City".

Jimi Hendrix - 1970-05-30 - Berkeley, CA (SBD/FLAC) 1st Show

Jimi Hendrix - Berkeley 1st Show - Complete Soundboard (ATM-0256/257)

Berkeley Community Theatre, Berkeley, California, USA
Saturday 30 May 1970 first show

Jimi Hendrix
vocals and guitar

Billy Cox
bass and vocals

Mitch Mitchell
drums

Speeches:
1st speaker Bill Graham
2nd speaker unknown

Recorded on 8-track by Abe Jacob with the Wally Heider mobile truck

This set is an uprade of ATM-0123/24 The Berkeley Concerts, now presenting the entire show in continuous uniform soundboard quality ("Star spangled banner" & "Purple haze" were completely missing from the older versions of the soundboard tape and the ATM discs as well as the start of both "Foxy lady" & "Freedom" and without the distortion audible on the previous ATM release.

The files are numbered from 1 to 13. In order to burn a 2 cdr set tracks numbered 1-6 should be burned on disc 1 and tracks 7-13 on disc 2.

Disc 1
1 Intro (cut at 2.56)
2 Fire
3 Johnny B Goode
4 Getting my heart back together
5 Foxy lady
6 Machine gun

Disc 2
1 Freedom
2 Red house
3 Message to love
4 Ezy ryder
5 Star spangled banner
6 Purple haze
7 Voodoo child (slight return)

It seems that all copies of the Berkeley soundboard tapes originated from Bob Terry. The Cooper Owen auction listings for the Bob Terry tapes include three reels with the 2nd part of the concert. It is however probable that Terry also had similar reels for the 1st half, for some reason omitted from the auction (like many other tapes Terry had), so very likely all of his Berkeley multitrack mixdowns were on 15 ips 10" Ampex reels or similar studio quality tapes.

It seems that Bob Terry circulated several different edits of his Berkeley tapes, this is why there are at least 3 different versions of the first show going around all originating from the same reels but with different cuts and missing tracks. The basis of this set was a low generation cassette originally received from Bob Terry that came into circulation in 2011. Unlike previous versions this cassette came directly from Terry and includes all of the music but has some cuts between songs.

This set uses a new transfer of that cassette (done on different equipment than the transfer circulated in 2011) as the main source with cuts between the tracks, some drop-outs, noises and the end of Voodoo child (slight return) patched with the dub/edit of the tape that was used for the previous ATM release 0123/24. The intro was taken from a third dub/edit (taken from a previous multi source composite version of the concert) with one cut patched with the main source.

There's only one cut remaining and that occurs pre-concert before Jimi enters the stage. It's unknown whether this is also present on the multitrack tapes but as the other edits on the various versions of the tape were "clean" and the sole remaining cut clearly has the tape speeding up after the cut. So it's quite likely that the cut was introduced by different equipment than the other cuts and thus could well be on the master tapes, possibly the multitrack deck was halted when the start of the actual concert was delayed.

There's no way to be sure if Bob Terry used his original reels to dub the cassette used as the main source here, it's also quite possible that he dubbed from a safety copy. So the lineage of the main source would read something like this:

Master (multitrack) > 15ips mixdown reel (> reel?) > cassette > wav

The exact lineage of the patch sources is unknown.
No eq was applied to the main source, it was necessary to invert channels and apply eq to the patches in order to make seamless repairs but some variation remains. Apart from the usual differences in hiss levels there were slight differences in the stereo image between the tapes, some tapes had wider stereo than others even though the actual mix of the instruments appeared to be the same. This difference was either introduced deliberately or is down to the copying process, either way some repairs/patches are not 100% inaudible because of this.

Geetarz Comments:
For years VHS tapes of varying quality from this pro shot performance have circulated among collectors. Now, the folks at the Beano label hit the ball out of the park with this release in stunningly good quality. Unless someone has a broadcast quality master under the bed - this is officially "the one" to have.
Easily one of (if not) the best performances of the 1988 tour, the Philly crowds always show a lot of enthusiasm for EC and he in turn pays them back by putting on a great show, and this is no exception.
Excellent quality, well authored, and an essential part of any core EC collection. This one isn't recommended - it's REQUIRED.

comments:
A fine show from the "on every street" tour (some call it "on easy street tour"). this recording is from behind the stage so the sound isn't the best but the music comes through pretty well and not too much crowd back there either. there is some talking in the recording, not too loud. I'm not sure if this is the whole show or not, I think it is (not unusual to find solid rock as a set ender, especially in a rock town like Worcester, it fits).  I'm not sure, but I don't think the brothers with cash tour ever made it to Worcester, just 2 shows at Wang Center and 2 at Boston Garden in 1985. what is here sounds like it's all here without cuts in the middle of any songs. If it's from musicjaime it sounds good even when not one of his best. nothing real unusual in here, not a super long show, but longer than some folks got even on this tour.

There is a fadeout at end of track 8 (during applause) and a fadein to start track 9 (also during applause). I have not used any noise reduction or EQ with this recording. only to reduce a few loud claps and bumps of the microphone, and balance the levels out. There's also a good balance of the "heavy fuel" and lighter sides of Knopfler and Dire Straits, many were glad to hear I love you too much which I think was a Knopfler solo band tune not often played with the big boys at this time. i'm not a whiz with Eq'ing or I might have tried using some here, the lower midrange frequencies are quite overemphasized in some parts. (it's that hockey arena sound you've heard so many times) someone who knows how to do it right could probably bring this up to at least a B quality. if they don't know how they'd probably wind up ruining it. that's why I didn't try it here. this is basically a raw from master post. Not bad, but don't expect it to sound like my 1st musicjaime source post (Jeff Beck @ Great Woods 8/13/95).

I was in the very top row, as far from the stage as it was possible to be. I was so high up you'll actually hear wind interference on the mic every now and then.

Notes:
For those of you who don't already know, the Union tour blended the two most recognizable lineups of Yes; the classic '70's version and the 90125 era of the band. The result is among other things, that you get to experience two guitar virtuosos in the persons of Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin. The presentation on this dvd is impeccable and should not be missed if you are a fan of any era of Yes.

Notes:
Here's another gem from the vaults of Krzquest. Van Halen on none other than the DKRC show via 1982 ! This video document contains 1 promo vid ( Oh , Pretty Woman ) 3 live songs filmed from an unknown location ( the venue has been argued about by fans for years , but I'm convinced nobody really knows where this was filmed. Please correct me if you have updated info ) And 5 interview segments hosted by Jim Ladd @ the home of " Diamond Dave " himself. The interviews are priceless and are in and of themselves worth the DL imho ...

Quality stands as 8.5 video and a solid 9 for audio. There is a VHS noise bar at the bottom of the screen throughout the entire vid , but it is small and not a distraction whatsoever.

This was the first hometown gig where the Smiths were headliners.
As the band came on stage Morrissey greeted the fans "Hello you little charmers... we're the Smiths, how d'you do?" then launched into "You've Got Everything Now". Throughout the show, in one song out of two (faster numbers), Morrissey - who still looked ill at ease on stage at the time - had something to shake in his right hand while with the left one he held the microphone. In "You've Got Everything Now" the bouquet of flowers Morrissey had carried on stage was shaken to the beat until there was nothing left, all the flowers and broken stems littering the stage. After this Morrissey simply said "So there!" and introduced the next song, "Handsome Devil!". For this one, the flowers in Morrissey's free hand were replaced by a tambourine.

The following song was introduced as "This is your new anthem if you but knew it, 'Reel Around The Fountain'... grab it!". The song was already becoming a favourite of the four that were broadcast on John Peel's programme, hence the comment. For "What Difference Does It Make?", Morrissey picked up the tambourine again. "Wonderful Woman" was gradually getting formed into the version that would eventually be released, but at this point in time Morrissey still sang "Ah answer me, what to be done with her?" instead of "I ask myself, what to be said of her?". During "These Things Take Time" Morrissey used maracas to occupy his free right hand.

The next track was dedicated to the Buzzcocks' ex-manager and head of the Manchester New Hormones label: "If nobody objects, a slight request... to everybody's favourite neighbour, Richard Boon... happy 312 Richard... 'I Don't Owe You Anything'." Then "Hand In Glove" (for which Morrissey used two maracas!) was incorrectly introduced as "Miserable Lie". After the song the mistake was corrected and Morrissey used the opportunity to throw a little sales pitch: "That wasn't 'Miserable Lie', it was 'Hand In Glove'... and if you bought 'Hand In Glove', why not buy it again?... This is 'Miserable Lie'."

The encore was introduced with the line "Accept yourself... if you can...". At some point into the song, while Johnny had his back turned, Morrissey pretended to hit him on the back of the head with the two maracas he was shaking. After the song, Morrissey simply shouted "Goodbye!", as he had done just before the pre-encore break, and the band left the stage.

This concert was professionally shot from various camera angles. The footage was at some point intended to be released on video by Factory Records. Plans fell through, but the footage has since made it into the hands of bootleggers. It can be found on VHS and DVD.

An audience recording of the whole set minus the first song is sold and traded under the title "Little Charmers". This has found its way onto file-sharing networks. However collectors might prefer an untitled audio transfer of the video recording because it sounds better and includes the whole set.
