Another spectacular show. The band is extremely good this night. They do a lot of old stuff at this show it being as short as it is.

The highlight is Hank taking an unopened beer can to his head during Black Coffee and staggering off stage. He later comes back and recites the lyrics without the mic while holding a mic stand and pointing from the thrower to the stand and then touching his head. He invites him to the stage "to come and get killed." After the song falls over, he goes into a long rap about having travelled a long way to play for them all and that it's not so nice to throw things at the performers. Pretty intense moment.

Finally, this is a multi-camera shoot, so it may have been broadcast or released at some point somewhere.

Notes by the uploader:
- I got this recording in an (online) trade.
- This was the most challenging speed correction I have done to date. It took me a few tries to get it right.  The original recording sped up 4 or 5 times during the set, so I had to recalibrate the rate of correction accordingly.  The trickiest part was during the middle breakdown of "Soup Is Good Food" where the song sped up significantly over the course of just a few bars.
- The original tape seems to have been altered.  There were a few points where the audio seems to fade in (start of tracks 8, 12 for example).
- "A Commercial/Bleed For Me" is not on this recording.  Track 12 cuts out just as "A Commercial" starts and track 13 fades in during the last couple of seconds of "Bleed For Me"

Background:
I was lucky enough to develop a pretty solid virtual friendship with Chris Metzler, and seemingly was able to succeed where many others have not: getting him to open up his vast collection of recorded material to digitally transfer. The many requests he received over the years were impossible to fulfill, and he honestly felt badly about ‘hoarding’, but there was little way to oblige all of them over the decades of taping, trading, and collecting

Perhaps Chris saw in me the chance to get his tapes transferred, and also out to the many folks who had requested them since his last trading days many moons ago...

What we have in Chris’ collection is a brilliant snapshot of the Portland \ Eugene \ Corvallis, Oregon scene in the early to mid-1980’s. Then, after a prolific spell taping his favorite bands in and around Portland, Chris scored a job working for Touch’n’Go sister label Blast First Records out of the UK. He became label support for Band of Susans, and worked closely with many of the stalwarts during the heyday of Touch’n’Go.

Chris has also worked closely with many other bands, in various capacities; including Wire, Nick Cave (at Mute Records) and also the Buzzcocks, after their reformation in 1989, as well as many, many others; far too many to mention. This series does not even begin to scratch the surface of his collection; much of which is privately recorded and cannot be released to the public without the bands’ permissions. Still, what has been offered up is a pretty amazing collection of recordings, nonetheless, and certainly will bring to light a wealth of new material as well as many upgrades which have remained elusive for far too long.

Allow me to give a big thanks to Chris for his trust in me, and for opening up his vaults to we fans!

A smokin’ set of a tape that has seen some circulation, but never from this low of a gen, as far as I know. The date here is indeed correct (yay!)…no revamps of info should be needed, as a poster of the show is included in torrent to prove it!...

The Corvallis show, originally thought to be part of this stint, actually turns out to be from 1982…still need to do some digging on that date, as it appears to have eluded even the most ardent DK fans…

This tape, after spending a few months at the bottom of a tool-box, was given to me years ago by a member of the production crew, along with a handful of other tapes I have yet to deal with, all dirty and damaged to some degree. They've been sitting in a box of junk and old broken mic-clips etc in my various closets, as I've moved several times, ever since - until now (now that I have access to a real computer to use to work on them).
I removed the tape reel from the broken case and put it in another case and was able to transfer it successfully - and I am very pleased with what I found here - a great, funny show by the DKs.
* The taper, a friend of mine, liked to record from the soundboard with an extra mic for the room to fatten up his tapes, but I think it is pretty much an SBD. The audience (those not storming the stage) is pretty distant, there's hum from the lights, and I can hear a limiter kicking in here and there.
+ As far as I know, this is from the only copy of the tape, unless a dub was made before I got it.
Throughout the set, Jello Biafra is dealing with audience members stting on and running across the stage, grabbing mics and trying to sing along or shout statements reflecting their own world-views, to Jello's amusement and/or annoyance...it's worth a listen just for that interaction..I've tracked it to separate most of those segments from the songs. Speaking of the songs, I'm afraid I'm not up on my DKs song titles so I'd appreciate help with the untitled tracks. Tracks in "quotes" are spoken, shouted, etc parts

The audience recording was good enough, but the SBD is downright incredible…rarely do ya find a SBD mix that is spot on as this one is…great stuff…though he is not quite sure who ran the patch, best guesstimates is 1st gen...i can't imagine it being higher than that myself...it's yummy!...

I got this form the same guy ig to the Brains 11-14-82 show from. And per ususal with a DK show, Jello asks for the vocals to be turned up. I think Jello does this with every show or if he doesnt,the vocs are already way up. You can hear someone asking for "I am the Wheel" before Fwd To Death and then Slim Whitman and Box Car Willie get requests too. The Jello says for the people who  can't in tonight,we're playing at the Marble Bar in Baltimore tomorrow(4/16/81),has  that been up yet? probably.
