Notes:
Here is a great soundboard from JLP. The quality is nearly perfect.

Additional Notes:
This was originally shared without an exact date and venue. The details shown in this updated info file were provided by the user Katsuzo in 2004, and copied by iggy1 when it was reshared in 2021. No reference was given so there are still significant elements of uncertainty to this show. The frequency content really drops off after 15 kHz which lends credence to this being from an FM broadcast.

Note that because I changed the original text file, I had to make a new checksum (the old one verified). The current checksum is ffp and so it is only associated with the audio files. All the audio files are unchanged.

1980 Ponty Shows are kinda scarce. This may be slightly INC but a good performance and recording. A 24 year old Randy Jackson and 22 year old Rayford Griffin here. The Civilized Evil Album did not appeal to me back in the day but this is a great line up.

comments:
A fine radio broadcast from the Big Apple with some prime Ponty on his 1st solo band tour. The 1st tune is probably a leftover relic from his 1973 tour with Frank Zappa, the rest are all from his 1st solo record, Upon the Wings of Music, with my favorite Ponty drummer. This guy can really play.  It's a short set, but I think the whole thing. the tape was flipped just before upon the wings. I got this from a guy from Binghamton, N.Y. many years ago on a Maxell XLII-S cassette, and it sounds clean. This tour began a long and productive mergence of Ponty with Daryl Steurmer before he joined with Genesis.  Most of my favorite Ponty band albums have Steurmer on guitar, including the 1st 3 (at least) which are all very good- Wings, Aurora, and Imaginary Voyage. I have one representation for each of these, and they're all very nice shows of decent or better quality.

PREAMBLE: This incredible tape was kindly provided by RobSam and transferred via NAK DR-1 by doctorzap and serves as a significant upgrade to all known previous versions of this excellent and somewhat mysterious show. If you have heard this show from any other known source, then be prepared to be astonished by the clarity and amazingly detailed stereo separation contained herein.

SOURCE NOTATIONS: This tape needed speed correction including two rather challenging variable speed/pitch correction segments as noted in the FIXES section of the text below. The variable speed/pitch problems have been found on all circulating versions known to date as well as some SQ issues that occur during the last minute or so of DupreeÕs Paradise, around the location of tape flip 2, also noted below.

LINEAGE: Maxell XLII low GEN ? > Nakamichi DR-1 > Realtek HDAudio pentium i7 > Soundforge 10 Pro Highest quality setting Izotope 64 bit src downsampling / MBIT+dither> TLH > Peak > Speed Correction > Editing & retracking > FLAC (level8)

Total time 70:48 min

THE FIXES HEREIN: Speed correction of -40 cents performed from the very beginning of the Tune Up Introduction Preamble through 00:06:28.10 of DupreeÕs Paradise. Speed correction of -30 cents performed from 00:06:28.10 of DupreeÕs Paradise through the remainder of the show. Variable speed correction was applied in 2 segments of DupreeÕs Paradise @ 00:06:28.10 Ð 00:06:48.50 and @ 00:09:03.50 Ð 00:09:22.50. The editing together of the two tape sides of DupreeÕs Paradise took place @ 00:06:28.10.

TAPE FLIP NOTATIONS: These were kept unchanged as provided from the RobSam-doctorzap shoebox seed, hence no silence removed or fade-outs/fade-ins performed. So both tape flips are heard as is on this FZ Shows entry matching those found in the shoebox seed.
