Rick Danko and Richard Manuel as a duet recorded at the lone star cafe in early 1984. it's interesting hearing just the two of them and they do some rare songs on this one. they are joined for the late show by a harp player. this is not a totally uncirculated recording but from what i can tell, could be an upgrade on most other versions. it's taken from my 2nd gen reels freshly transferred just for you all.

Notes:
In early 1983, Helm and Danko did this tour as an acoustic duet. Rick is heard on the guitar and vocals, while Levon covers the mandolin, harmonica and vocals.

Recorded live on 28 January 1983 at Starry Night, Portland, Oregon, using a soundboard feed to a Nakamichi 480 cassette deck. Tom Robinson was at the board. The left channel held the vocals and harmonica, while the right channel held the guitar and mandolin. The tape was recorded somewhat hot, causing some distortion.

Here is something very special. The performances are fun, free spirited and have excellent playing. The Band (members there of) are already playing great, and when the guests show up, they play even better. I'm unable to make a sample on my work computer, but I personally give it a "A+"! This is a soundboard recording of Rick Danko with Aaron Hurwitz and Billy Reed recorded about two months before Rick's untimely death. Setlist is pretty typical of his shows over the last decade or so of his life; I'm not familiar enough with his live material to know whether there are any true rarities in the set, but this is a nice (though short) show. You would never know from listening to it that his time was so short; he sounds like he's singing and playing in good form.

Newspapers from the time report a show due at the Lone Star on 19 September 1984 by Rick Danko & Levon Helm. However, the various combinations of Band members performing together frequently changed, often at short notice.
