Recording Notes
This was a great night. Met up with two other tapers (you know who you are) so expect to see other recordings from this show - and those guys were on the floor in the thick of it...had a couple of beers and compared noteson equipment / stealth tactics and security avoidance and then made our way to the show.

Good seats. But Christ it was loud!! I've been to a lot of shows and this has to be the loudest I've been to... Really good sound, well balanced and clear. Ozzy did a good job - even if he was shuffling around like he had dementia... He kept getting shuffling back to the drumkit and dipping his head in a bucket of water - no kidding...

Geezer and Mr Iommi did a fantastic job creating a wall of sound and the drummer - Jeez he's good. I can't remember the last time I saw a 10 minute drum solo but this one was really good. With his head band and long hair, along with the high arm smashes he had a real John Henry Bonham circa 1973 look (a little thinner and sporting a few more tats admittedly) - really enjoyable solo.

- This is not taken from the Fillmore Tree. The Fillmore Tree version is about 25 mns. This here is almost the complete show, only "Directions", the set-opener is missing: total time is about 64 mns. This FM source sounds great.

- According to P.Losin: "The Davis Septet opened for Leon Russell and Sea Train for four nights at the Fillmore West, October 15-18 (Thursday-Sunday). Columbia probably recorded these shows, and the Fillmore certainly did. None of the recordings of this show that I have heard includes "Directions," the standard set-opener..."

Source: CD-R acquired via trade with one continuous track,
tracking and normalization done by me using Soundforge, then flac.

This is a rare show that really sounds great from a year where few recordings exist. Seems to have been available on a bootleg cd, but I have never seen it.

As usual, my tracks do not match Losin, they are closer to Lohmann. "Some versions in circulation have a splice at ca. 4:15, at which point about 0:25 is missing." This one does NOT seem to.

a Live and Direct FM radio broadcast by "Radio2 Live", Radio2 RAI [second channell of italian national radio] from Sala Santa Cecilia, Auditorium del Parco della Musica, Roma (Italy), on SUNDAY 14 April 2013, 21:20 hours [CET].

Patti Smith: voice, guitar
Lanny Kaye: guitar
Jackson Smith: guitar
Jesse Smith: piano, keyboards
Tony Shanahan: bass, piano
Jay Dee Daugherty: drums
(guitarist Jack Petruzzelli was also allegedly part of this line-up, but he's not mentioned by Patti during band's intros, track 14)

this was last (?) night of MyFestival, conducted/run by Patti in Rome, playing Horses in its entirety. WARNING: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording ONLY FOR COMPLETISTS. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging. I would franky avoid downloading the interval and/or encore break, as they are mostly banters in ITALIAN

This was my second time seeing New Order (first time was back at Coachella in 2005), and easily surpasses the previous outing. I was cautious about Goldenvoice sticking them in a tent rather than one of the two outdoor stages to close the night, but in retrospect, GV knew what they were doing and made the right choice. Easily the best set of the night, and in my mind, the REAL headliners for Saturday. They played a full set of all their hits (minus a couple I wanted to hear like Age of Constent and Your Silent Face) and even had time for a full encore. In the end, a complete 80 minute set to close Coachella on Saturday, just completey awesome!

This is the 7th concert of the sold out 1986 European "Magic Tour" and the best bootleg recording from this tour. This tour is one of the best documented Queen tours, at least one (in-)complete recording exists from every show they played on this tour with one exception (Zürich July 1st 1986). Ten of the shows were indoor, the remaining shows were big stadium shows leading the tour to it's great final at Knebworth Park which was attended by 120000 - 200000 people. A lot of stuff of this tour has been released officially such as Wembley (both nights), Budapest and Knebworth (Live Magic compilation - a complete official Knebworth release does not exist).

A truly superb upgrade of the Mannheim soundboard recording. Although it has better soundquality than the 'Reigns The World' bootleg, this one has a bit more tape hiss than the previous release. Having said that, this set is still far superior to the others as it not only contains the full show, it is also without any fade in/outs which were so often present on previous releases. This is the definitive version of the show, and it cannot and will not get any better than this. Note that the previous bootleg release with the same title (on Leopard label) has worse quality than this Gypsy Eye re-release.

The lead singer of the band Marillion, Fish, joins the band to sing backing vocals on Tutti Frutti.

Running time: 68:20

This upgrade comes courtesy of the Talking Heads tapes Hans de Vente shared last year. Among them were 25 minutes of this concert recorded from the sounddesk: Psycho killer, Big business, I Zimbra, Swamp and Slink. Quality was of course better than that of the two FM broadcasts (1982 and 2006) that were available. Also, Slink was a track that was never broadcast (I guess they considered a solo Jerry Harrison track less interesting).

I tried to combine these five tracks with the FM broadcasts, but this did not work out well. The 2006 FM broadcast has great sound but its compressed and in-your-face quality did not fit in with the sounddesk tracks. And the available recording of the 1982 broadcast was simply not very good.

I had just about given up about the idea when I discovered among the myriad Talking Heads tapes Hans shared an excellent recording of the 1982 FM broadcast. This one fit much better with the sounddesk tracks. And it makes the recording closer to how things originally sounded. So I used this for the other tracks and added to it only two tracks from the 2006 broadcast, Once in a lifetime (not broadcast in 1982) and Take me to the river (which faded halfway into the bleeps of the news, a bittersweet throwback to how things were, listening to Dutch radio).

In combining the sources I took the soundboard tracks as point of departure and used CoolEdit to adapt the other tracks to make transitions minimal (some equalizing, volume leveling, etc.). You can still hear a slight difference in sound characterics, with the sounddesk tracks standing out, but only when listening closely. Also, Slink was at the end of Hans'tape, so it fades out after about four minutes.

Anyway, these are just minor issues. This is a nice Talking Heads concert from 1982 with great sound quality. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (which won't be easy, believe me).

Tedeschi Trucks Band, B.B. King at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, 8/30/12
By Jason Blevins | September 4th, 2012

If ever dueling electric guitars can sound romantic, Derek Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi can make it happen.

Trucks’ raging fingerpicking slide melded with Tedeschi’s soulful tone Thursday at Red Rocks, swelling the swollen venue with their swooning sound. Backed by a nine-piece band – including two drummers, three brass blasters and two back-up singers – the six-stringing couple shredded through a nearly two-hour set that saw echoes of Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers swirl with Professor Longhair and Bonnie Raitt, all backdropped with Trucks’ masterful old-school blues riffs.

Trucks was barely a teenager when he began fronting the Allman Brothers Band, his back turned to the audience as he faced his uncle Butch on drums. Today the still bashful, baby-faced yet bearded 33-year-old blues legend turns halfway to the crowd, facing his wife as he rips his signature Gibson SG. Trucks lays low when Tedeschi sings – like in the early “Echoes Of My Mind” – but cranks up the wattage with succulent jamming in tunes like “Bound For Glory” and “Shelter.” Joined briefly by his longtime cohort on bass, Todd Smallie, in “Get What You Deserve,” Trucks flourished in an intricately assembled moment of improvisation.

For “Midnight in Harlem,” Trucks led his betrothed in a winding jam that revealed just how far singer-songwriter Tedeschi has come on the six string since marrying her guitar hero.

Truly both can carry their own bands, but the merger of their two formerly independent outfits has obviously smoothed their rambling lives – they often tour with their two kids – and provided fans a chance to marvel at the double-barreled virtuosity that is the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

The band is touring with blues king B.B. King, who opened the nearly sold-out show fronting an eight-piece band.

Cradling his Gibson “Lucille,” the 86-year-old swaggered through a moving set, stopping only to remove his necklace and rings, which his helpers distributed to wheelchaired rockers in the front row as he crooned “Someone Really Loves You.”

At 86, King sings with passion and plays with fire, but the ever-touring guitar giant’s days at Red Rocks are likely numbered. In “Key To The Highway,” King rumbled “I won’t be back no more” asking for “one more kiss,

darling, just before I go.”

And, as the full moon peaked from behind a pocket of cloud, more than 9,000 stomped and hollered in an ecstatic, moving embrace of the greatest blues guitarist of all time.

Donít be fooled by ëSBDí this is a fairly generated show with tape wear and hiss. Iíve fixed the drop outs by copying the good channel across using Soundforge and re-tracked using CDWave, nothing else has been altered other than a fade out on Garageland. This copy contains a short interview with who sounds like Kid Jensen from BBC Radio 1(or 2)

From BMC

Taken direct and raw from the soundboard the best circulating recording captures all the instrumentation very well and more importantly the intensity and attack of the performance. Its faults are mainly due to tape wear and it being at least one copy, but more probably several copies off the master. There is some hiss and numerous minor tape dropouts but its faults canít detract from it being a highly enjoyable sound.
A number of other faults are from the original soundboard problems as the soundman wrestled with the legendary Clash volumes.

Review of the concert by a Swedish VanTrades member:
There were 2 shows on the 29th and 30th of April, 1994 at Kulturbolaget in Malmo. Sometimes Kulturbolaget is refered to as KB. It has nothing what so ever to do with KB Hallen in Copenhagen. Kulturbolaget has a 750 capacity and is a rockclub. No chairs etc. The first show sold out immediately (first time in the club's history I believe) and the other show was also a full house, although it was still possible to buy tickets the day of the show.

The first show clocked in at 170 min and the second at an unbelievable 186 min which must be one of if not the longest ONE set shows Van has ever done. He had to be pulled of the stage by the manager because he was missing the last ferry to Copenhagen where he was staying. Apparently none of the hotels in Malmo (including the Sheraton and Radissons etc) were up to his standards. These long sets can in part explain why there was booing when Van left the same stage after only about 75 or so minutes when he played KB again in May this year.

Now why do I know all this? Well I'm pretty sure that it is my recording that is being talked about. I DAT taped both shows with great results. I'm aware of one other recording of at least one night but it was not as good as mine (and analog). There is one flaw in that I had some problems switching tapes so "Shaking All Over" from the 30th has been substituted from my friend's analog recording.
