Excellent show. The band is hot. Plants vocals on Dazed are a little unusual. Only Plants vocals prevent this from being Ex-/Ex quality. They have an annoying tinny edge to them.

5. Baby, Don't You Do It

Woodstock, August 19, 1969:

(Woodstock was 17th of August 1969, not 19th as the bootleg says. Also of note is that the source tape changes to a different one at 00:01:41 in middle of "Don't Ya Tell Henry.")

This 3 CD The Band bootleg was released in 1997 and should not be confused with the official Across the Great Divide box set. This is the third release in The Genuine Bootleg Series, for some reason sub-titled Take 4. The two first bootleg boxes, The Genuine Bootleg Series, and The Genuine Bootleg Series, Take 2, were mainly filled with Dylan material. Take 4 only has a small amount of Dylan content that is available elsewhere. A Take 3 CD set, all Dylan content, was released in 1999.

As usual for the Genuine Bootleg Series, this one continues the same tradition of high production values with multiple gatefold glossy-color sleeves. It also sports inner disc sleeves (each w/color pics + tracklist) and a 36-page booklet containing full text of the July '91 Goldmine article along with more photos and the track listings. All of the Genuine Bootleg Series have been reissued a few times, in cardboard sleeves and jewel boxes, and The Genuine Bootleg Series Vol 4 seem to exist also under the title Statue of Liberty.

58 tracks in all, including early Hawks material, outtakes from 1965 - 1967 The Basement Tapes and Big Pink sessions, outtakes from The Band, Rock of Ages, and Planet Waves, various Band live recordings, bits of a 1988 Levon Helm concert, and three demos for Jericho. A nice set with good sound quality.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978.  His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity.  In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes.  He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings.  In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands:  Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated.  Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes.  No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers.  Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community.  Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.

Pink Floyd, New Pre-FM Master (with Echoes!) 1974-11-16 Wembley
If you're a Pink Floyd collector, you probably have several versions of this particular recording. However, you've never heard it this good--and indeed, you've never heard the pre-FM soundboard 28-minute version of Echoes that appears for the first time in this set.
This is a noticeable upgrade over the EX roio called "Brain Damage" that was torrented on the Groove nearly a year ago.

These were EAC'ed from the original silvers by the person who brought this into circulation this week (thanks bbatnifty!)

Comments Justin Cook:
Darren Glen put in numerous hours at the studio remastering this bootleg, using Lovetown Melbourne - Night Two as his primary source material. The result is outstanding. Again, crowd noise is present--there is no way to eliminate that - but the vocals are at the forefront and all of the instruments can be clearly heard. This is definitely one of the best first leg Loevtown recordings available. It is infinitely better than Tonight I Feel Drunk and personally, I like it better than the raw sound offered in Lovetown Melbourne - Night Two.

Comments Darren Glen:
There are three different recordings of this show in the archive, all from different positions within the arena and with different equipment. By far the best recording was probably a transfer to CD-R from the original source tape...this version sounds like it was recorded with excellent mics and to a recording unit that wasnt plagued with Auto Gainwhich is good, as this allows the recording to retain excellent punch and dynamics. However I imagine that the mics used were not flat in response, leaving the sound seriously lacking in bottom end, and with a fairly harsh top end, and the recording was playing at the wrong speed (too fast). Unfortunately this recording was also missing 3 1/2 songs....but half of 'I Will Follow' remained. All of these anomalities were corrected and the frequency balance restored to a full, clean and tight response. The second recording was from a different location and using less superior equipment, but fortunately the missing songs from the better version above were in complete form here. This show was on a first generation TDK SA tape and was fully restored (NR, EQ, Speed Adj, etc) before the missing songs were re-balanced and slotted into the above recording in the correct position to make a complete recording for the project...entitled Bad at its Best...this is without a doubt the most incredible performance of Bad in the archive....and better than any of the versions of Bad from 87 shows i've heard as well. Bonos voice roars as he puts all of the singing phrases that he uses individually in different versions of Bad all into this one performance, and flawlessly. He ends up singing in all 3 sections right to the very end of the song just to fit them all in, instead of leaving the last section an instrumental as is usually the case. Thank you Steve Winwood and band for detouring from the Rod Stewart tour to bring us this excellent performance at The Fillmore. The house was packed and though I was in great position lined up with a stack, I had very little elbow room and was stuck near some major-league talkers for the first song. During "I'm A Man," I spotted a small opening and managed to creep forward enough to put the worst behind me, so it's more of a background murmur as opposed to the continuous conversation during "Secrets." Things settled down nicely as the band wove a hypnotic groove, and there was only one more issue I had to keep an eye on. My new position put me near a drunken idiot who was under the illusion that every girl that danced nearby wanted a piece of him. He was very touchy-feely, and several women got the hell out of there. You'll hear one turn to him at the beginning of "Higher Love" and say, "Don't touch me, don't talk to me, BACK OFF!" but this Neanderthal still didn't take the hint. Though most of his bad behavior was silent, unfortunately he does make a few inappropriate verbal appearances as well, the first of which I believe was during SW's intro to "Dirty City" when our hero felt the urge to yell, "Got any Grateful Dead?" He repeats his "Grateful Dead" yell and has a few cringe-worthy, drunken "YEAH!"s during "Dear Mr. Fantasy," but even that fails to ruin this stunning version of the song. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the recording and just wanted to let you know who your neighbors are going to be. I believe you've met them before.

Took a chance and sent cash to Brazil for this cd quite a few years back. Much to my surprise, the cd showed up in a mangled padded envelope, most of the jewel case was mashed into plastic dust, BUT the cd was in perfect shape! This is a soundboard or broadcast quality show and sounds excellent. Kai wasn't having the greatest night singing (and even admits it during the show) but musically, the band just smoked! Hope you enjoy this torrent, and PLEASE keep it going if the demand is there for it. The more people that help seed, the more shows I can put up
for everyone! Enjoy!

The SuperSonic bootleg label put out a gem of a product with this show.
Not only is the sound quality out of this world, but the artwork is stunning as well.
There were not many made, but if you ever come across it...snatch it up!
I paid a nice amount of money for mine and I frankly can't believe I'm sharing it here on DIME, but that's what I'm doing. This show was allegedly taken from the WMMS radio station vaults by a disgruntled employee and sold to the bootleg label. To that criminal, I have this to say - THANK YOU! That is the alleged story, whether it's true or not I don't know, but it made it's way out of WMMS somehow.
The performance itself is truly remarkable. It was recorded only a few weeks into the tour for the debut album and shows a band giving their absolute all. Brad Delp sounds great! Sholtz and Goudreau trade leads frequently and the fireworks they create are spectacular. Bass player Sheehan and drummer Hashian, hold down the grooves well throughout and contribute serviceable background vocals as well. Considering Sholtz played almost everything on the studio record himself and Delp did lead and background vocals, the parts are covered very well by the live band. Though, the background vocals can't match 4 or 5 overdubbed Delps. Highlights include a very early version of "A Man I'll Never Be", (which would later appear on the Don't Look Back album) and a blistering version of "Foreplay/Long Time" as well as a few gems that never made it on their studio albums. All in all, a hell of a show and one that no Boston fan should be without!

Notes: This was a once in a lifetime show for this EC fan. A new and really exciting collaborative album to premiere for one night only. No other shows announced or expected. Elvis' voice was in tip-top shape and the band was loud, tight and smokin'! Knowing in advance that there was going to be an FM broadcast, I planned on putting together this DVD using the FM source. It worked out very well and you will definitely enjoy watching this unique concert. A few things to know:

1. There are video gaps between songs, which include the beginnings of most of the songs. These last anywhere from 5-45 seconds. I filled the gaps with still pictures but kept the audio track going continuously in order to maintain continuity. The only audio missing are the two very brief WFUV station ID voiceovers which I removed.
2. "I Want You" starts with an a capella intro that EC very rarely performs. Of course, I was changing my camera battery during this special moment and missed it. Luckily, there is a pro shot version on YouTube which I used as a 50 second video patch.
3. A Blu-ray version of this show is coming soon. I hope within the next week.
