This particular concert is special for me for many reasons:
- it's the oldest solo Christy show I've seen around, along with a couple others from the same italian tour.
- the quality is great, considering the time it was recorded.
- it features Christy speaking Italian, and your humble native speaker can confirm it was a great effort with some really funny results.
- older show means some older material hardly played nowadays.
- Christy mentions my all-time musical hero, Maestro Frank Zappa, and the shovel becomes the zappa in Italian.
- The atmosphere of some of the songs reminded me of another great (and gone) musician and poet, Fabrizio de Andrè. If you're familiar with his music, try listening to El Salvador.

Notes
Legendary folk singer and balladeer Christy Moore - famed for his stunning vocals and thrilling live performances with guitar and bodhrán - is widely regarded as a key agent in the popularity of traditional Irish music in recent decades. Since the singer’s first major release “Prosperous”, recorded with future Planxty memebrs Liam Óg O'Flynn, Andy Irvine, and Dónal Lunny in 1972, Moore has released over 30 acclaimed live and studio albums as a solo artist, and as part of trad bands Planxty and Moving Hearts.Moore’s most recent releases are 2009 platinum-selling album “Listen”, which was his first in four years, and debuted at Number 1 in the Irish album charts, where it stayed for four weeks. Last year’s “Folk Tale” was produced by long-time collaborator Declan Sinnott, and features fellow trad greats Gerry O’Connor, Tim Edey, and Neil Martin with The West Ocean String Quartet.

This was a project from some years ago, which has been augmented by a couple of shows on Dime. I recorded most of the early ones myself, mainly from a Denon tuner to cassette. Later they were transferred on a Yamaha KX-333 via an ADC and DIO2496, and edited in Soundforge. They are in no particular order - mainly to fill out each CD. There are a few duplicate tracks as different edits were broadcast on different BBC programmes - mainly two of the Glastonbury sets. I do not pretend this is complete, and additions are welcome.
