Duran Duran - 1994 - Demo's Thank You (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

Info below is from Duran Duran Wiki: http://duranduran.wikia.com/wiki/With_Love_And_Thanks

With Love And Thanks is an unofficial Duran Duran compilation album, recorded between 1992 and 1995.

This is a collection of Duran Duran Thank You demos and live promotional performances.

"White Lines"
There are three versions of "White Lines" on the album, including a performance by Duran Duran on the US David Letterman Show. According to the Duran Duran Rare CD Guide site, the band were told at the last minute to cut down the song due to time constraints.

"Ball of Confusion"
The track is an uncensored version, with the lyrics "Politicians..Can You xxxxxxx believe them?"

"Perfect Day"
Track 3 is a recording very similar to the album version, but includes John Taylor singing backing vocals. The second version of "Perfect Day" and "Crystal Ship" (Acoustic) are from Simon Mayo's BBC Radio 1 breakfast show, aired in the UK. This performance on the Simon Mayo show also included an acoustic live version of "Ordinary World", which was released on the "White Lines" single CD and "Lay Lady Lay" Italian single.

"Thank You"
This is not the With Honors demo version, but a completely different recording.

"Plastic Girl"
The track is a live recording of Duran Duran's performance on the MTV Most Wanted show.

Bonus tracks:
"Dreamboy" and "Electric Barbarella" are not Thank You songs. "Dreamboy" is a Simon Le Bon solo song, recorded live at the Cannes Film Festival. The "Electric Barbarella" track 16 is a recording of a radio performance, and the Plastic Kiss Acoustic Mix is a re-edit of track 16.

(Audience FLAC)

Fillmore West (M1-AUD)

Recording Information :::
unknown equipment -> master audience tape -> 1st generation TDK SA-90 cassette, Dolby B on. NOTE: Such incredible variation between channels I originally thought this must be stereo, but realised it was mostly extreme volume adjustments. Maybe built-in mikes in reel-to-reel machine & very, very narrow stereo but just not my field of expertise. Many hours of work evened it up quite a bit.

Playback 2011-08-10 :::
1st generation TDK SA-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (fades &/or glitches, dropouts, volume adjustments, microphone bumps, claps, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2012-01-11.

Jeremy Spencer - guitar, vocals
Danny Kirwan - guitar, vocals
John McVie - bass
Mick Fleetwood - drums, percussion

07. Rattlesnake Shake -> Underway ( -> ? )
08. Oh Well
09. Madison Blues// (cuts after 3:15)

Total Time ::: 58:05

- Quality ain't too shabby but for some fan noise (see below). Check the samples & dance the Greeny way if you so choose.
- PLEASE NOTE: Came labeled 1969-01-17, but is surely 1969-01-19 as Peter says, "This is our last night playing for you" & thanks the audience "very, very, very much".
- Warts : Something like a fan in the vicinity of the microphone is a bit odd in some of the quiet bits, but overall, I think yer needs will be quite satisfied regardless. There are 20 seconds of volume overload at the beginning of track 4. Levels are somewhat erratic & I tried to fix them. The taper adjusts them, sometimes the channels were adjusted separately, then turned up quite loud while Peter is speaking between songs, then didn't always get turned back down - mostly all fixed.

This version was transferred from a gen1 cassette tape to CD-R by Truls Meland, an old-time Van collector (may he rest in peace). He sent me the CD-R transfers in order to tree this show via the Van Morrison online community @2000. I’d grade this a B or possibly B+ in sound quality.

Notes from original source of this recording:
Will and I packed up the gear at the What Stage after Red Hot Chili Peppers and hauled ass to That Tent to catch this show. We only missed a couple songs. We actually heard "I'm Eighteen" walking up. We moved into the crowd outside the tent and I used my old guy skills to get us inside and up to the soundboard rail where Randy had his rig set up. Only show I saw that I didn't tape. But we had a blast.
Randy doesn't upload so he sent me this show via DropBox and I did all the busy work to share it. The recording is fantastic. Church Audio comes through again. Nice work, Randy.

Another memorable night in my life as a concert-goer. Maiden tend to do that to you. ;-)
Made the mistake of relying on a buddy of mine to get tickets for the Montreal show, which he failed to do, so I called a friend in T.O. who managed to get pretty good seats there. I ended up doing a little road trip which is always fun. Haven't been to the ACC in awhile and I gotta say I was not impressed with the sound, at least in the beginning. Every other time I've seen Maiden the sound's been much clearer and crisp. It got better after the first few songs though and it was quite listenable, as you can hear from the recording. The energy from the band was great as always. Crowd was very good too. You can hear the usual "singers", as expected at every Maiden or Alice In Chains show, singing along to choruses and favourite melodic sections. All part of the fun atmosphere. Hope you enjoy listening to this recording as much as we enjoyed seeing the live show.

Great show ( but short ) by the GREAT Alice Cooper .Not much to say , it's Alice ! The band as always was very tight and packed full of talent . One thing I will say is Orianthi really impressed me .... she can tear it up ! Alice always finds the BEST talent .

Notes:
JEMS master recording. This is an excellent sounding recording. This show captures Jethro Tull touring in support of their War Child album. This recording has circulated for years but this is the first time the master reels have ever been properly digitized (April 2010). This is an excellent show and performance with an early taste of an excerpt of Minstrel In The Gallery which would not be released until later in 75. Ian's in between song banter at this show is as entertaining if not more entertaining than music. Also of note this show took place on the 25th of July not the 27th as some other sources have speculated in the past.

Notes from Collectors Music Reviews

The new release At The Beeb Volume I by the label Culombia (sic) is a compilation of 4 different BBC radio broadcasts of Pink Floyd performances from December 1967 to May 1969. The first, second, & fourth are “Top Gear” shows, while the third one is a “Nite Ride” show. They comprise the 1st disc of a double-disc factory-pressed silver original real 2-CD set – Volume II, the 2nd disc of the set, is of the legendary BBC session of September 30th, 1971, which I decided not to buy since I already have 5 different versions of it and can’t imagine the best ones possibly getting any noticeably superior. Anyway, Volume I was selected because, although the outstanding Celestial Voices that was released by Rover Records several months ago included a major upgrade in sound quality for the first & third BBC shows, a big upgrade in sound quality for the second & fourth BBC shows can now be found on Volume I – in addition to such an upgrade for the first & third BBC shows that were included on Celestial Voices.

Unfortunately my ears aren’t good enough to be able to discern any noticeable difference(s) in quality between the same shows found on both Celestial Voices & Volume I, but all 4 shows on Volume I are a certain, long-awaited major upgrade in quality for the same 4 shows that can be found on the old Great Dane Records’ release The Complete Top Gear Sessions 1967-1969 (GDR CD 9206). Sadly, however, the old GDR title includes a 5th BBC show, from the autumn of 1967, for which a significant quality upgrade is apparently not available – at least not yet.

The following is printed in exact word-for-word verbatim near the top of the rear cover of Volume I - “These soundboard recordings are taken from the original masters, except for tracks 13 to 16 which were copied from an excellent broadcast recordings.”

Introductory &/or concluding comments, mostly by John Peel, can be heard at the ends of each track. Packaged in a regular 1-CD jewel case, but with the rear insert being single-sided only in terms of artwork, with still very nice artwork overall that’s done similarly to that of Floyd’s 2nd officially released album, A Saucerful of Secrets, At The Beeb Volume I is a terrific find that is very highly recommended.

Notes
This is the widely circulated BBC recording of the 1971 show at the Paris Cinema, London. However, many releases have omitted the encore "Blues", as this was never broadcast. The quality of the recording itself is phenomenal, and could be mistaken by an amateur for an officially released CD. The performance itself is astonishing; they Floyd were really on the top of their game at the time of recording. Real space age prog stuff, with lengthy variations and improvisations a-plenty. With continuity announcements from the one and only John Peel. Highly recommended for those both new to collecting and die-hard Floyd-heads.

Notes:
There were worries that Ozzy wouldn't turn up having cancelled the Mannheim show two days beforehand and the Graspop headlining show from last year but he did finally arrive and put on a great show. His voice was stonger than the recent Download Black Sabbath show and way better than his last Graspop show which was so bad it was laughable. He enjoyed playing with his new toy - a foam water cannon and the set list was a good mix of Ozzy and sabbath classics. It was a blustery day and there is quite a bit of wind noise and the usual expected chatter from a festival but it is certainly worth a listen.

Scored a 2nd row seat right in front of His Bob-ness, and I was basically sitting under the stack so I decided to take George and Tony a little lower in the mix and boosted Bob, Charlie, and Donnie on the high end (using Sound Forge)...If a better-sounding capture doesn't surface and someone is interested in doing a more in-depth sound adjustment, I'll be glad to send the wav file along..

Completely awe-inspiring evening in the prescence of greatness.. Bob continues to amaze as he squeezes every ounce of showmanship and panache out of his songs (and Frank's too) and most arrangements felt really fresh to me. Too many highlights to list but a real standout for me was the reworked High Water. Everything was well played and the crowd was very well behaved and appreciative all evening. On a side note, I kinda missed Stu's shakers during  ERK as he swtiched to electric guitar.
