Notes:
This is a special one for me. I made the drive down from Seattle to LA with a couple of my bandmates to attend what was one of the great rock festivals ever. Not the largest ever, but over 250,000 people attended. I'll include my ticket stub in the files.

This was an all day show starting with Bob Welch (with guests Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwod), Dave Mason, Carlos Santana, Heart, Ted Nugent, Foreigner, Aerosmith (headliners), Mahagony Rush, and Rubicon in that order. I have soundboard audio of all of them.

Long story short - we managed to make our way into the VIP section and watched most of the day while seated, drinking free beer, right in front of the stage. Meanwhile, all around us, people were packed like sardines along the fences. The first band we were able to see from this spot was Heart. We were too afraid to get up and get more beer - or even go to the bathroom, because we didn't belong there, and we thought someone might see that we didn't have backstage passes, and throw us out. There was security everywhere - at the entrance to the seats, and at every entrance to the tent where the bar was. So we stayed put.

Cal Jam 2 was filmed for ABC television and I do have that video also. Quality of the video is not perfect, but me and my friends can actually be seen in the seating area during Heart's performance. A memory that will last forever.

Heart - being a Seattle band - we knew them well, and lusted after Ann and Nancy just like everyone else. Here they are - in their prime, with the original lineup. There are previews here of songs from the "Magazine"  album, which would be released the following month, and from "Dog & Butterfly" which would follow several months later.

  1. Definitely the must have version of this concert. High quality (not absolutely perfect) soundboard recording for a tremendous concert by the Wilson sisters. In my ears 9/10 quality. Thanks for sharing, Edge !
