Comments:
This was originally upped to U2torrents in late 2008; I re-shared it in mid-2011 and it enjoyed an incredible 7-year run on Dime before dropping off the tracker over the summer. This is an outstanding IEM/audience matrix from the high point of the 2001 "Elevation" tour featuring a great performance and setlist. This show rocks. I liked the spring setlist in the U.S. better than their return engagement in the fall, partly because the set was longer (120-135 minutes each night, compared with 105-110) and partly because I felt like there was more variety in the setlist and more passion in the performance. The band is on the top of their game on this night, and I really like the song selection, with the relative rarities "Gone" and "All I Want Is You" mixed in with their staples. You can't go wrong with any "Elevation" show, but I think this one is particularly good.
The matrix is well done; all four band members are well-represented and equally mixed. There is just enough audience in the mix to lend ambience to the recording -- very rarely do you hear audience members close to the mic to distract one's attention from the music. This is one of the better "Elevation" matrixes I've heard.
Additional notes from the original info file:
Bono turns 41 today and the band helps him celebrate by playing a bit of The Beatles' 'Birthday' as a coda to 'Elevation.' During 'Mysterious Ways,' Bono invites a couple dozen girls on stage who dance while he sings 'It's my birthday....'
