Received these from a trader in the UK around 1992 that was affiliated with the BBC. He claims all were from his masters that he recorded himself, making them 1st gen. copies. Gklainer transferred these from the original cassettes to .wav files in 1998. Watching Robin Trower on the BBC last week reminded me how tastily he played whenever he did something for Auntie. Thought I'd dig this out of an old EHD and share it with the good people at PRLB.

Late last month, JEMS lost a second founding member, the great Stan Gutoski. Stan recorded hundreds of shows in and around the Seattle area starting in 1972 and kept taping over five decades. He was famous for recording shows on a Tandberg full-track mono reel to reel, and his masters of Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, David Bowie, CSNY and Joni Mitchell are some of the best '70s recordings of those artists.

What is less widely known about Stan is that he was equally committed to recording radio broadcasts on his home reel to reel which was a Revox B77.

If any local Seattle station was broadcasting a live concert or carrying a syndicated concert series, Stan fired up the recorder, sometimes going to sleep with an alarm to wake him up to flip the tape (his job in the postal service required him to report to work very early). He also set up a timer system to record broadcasts when he couldn't be there to start the deck.

Stan made over 200 radio recordings, some on 10" reels that are packed with music and interviews. Those reels were sitting idle in the JEMS Archive for years until our friends at KRW_CO volunteered to transfer them. We were only too happy to let a team whose work we admire take possession of the radio reels and bring Stan's tireless late-night efforts into the digital age.

This is a very early FM Broadcast of Robin when he was playing 2 sets a night. This broadcast includes four songs from the yet to be released classic 'Bridge of Sighs'.  In fact, the arrangement, lyrics and the name of "Day of the Eagle" is different. Robin introduces the song as "Another Day Another Night" which were lyrics in the album version. "Little Bit of Sympathy", "The Fool And Me" and "Lady Love" are the other songs included in this set which had not been released.

Excellent quality for a 1973 Trower show. This is the complete version sent to me by Easytree member

This is a short (48min) but great recording. I allways loved Robin's guitar-playing since. I first heared his record "Bridge Of Sighs" in a friends car in 1974 while driving through Berlin. My first thought was 'unconceivable', not Hendrix but so sweet, it just took my breath away..... and I was lost to Robin from that moment on - I hope You will love him too, in my believe he is one of the greatest guitar players of all times !! - If You like it, there is a little more to come.....

Notes: 
Long overdue visit by Robin and friends (the 2006 show at the Ferry was cancelled at the last moment on Council noise restriction grounds) and it was good to see them on form in front of an appreciative crowd. The gig was unsurprisingly sold out. Great to hear my fave, Bridge Of Sighs and just generally to listen to Robin's superb guitar playing and the sounds he gets from his guitar and pedal board - I love the tone on Twice Removed... It was also great to hear Davey on song, not that Pete and Dave are anything else than an excellent backline. I enjoyed the playing all round. 

Even though he died in 2002, the sadly missed James Dewar was the subject of song dedication with For Earth Below and Hannah. RIP JD. 

I see from Soreballs great recording and other previously posted shows, that the set list doesn't really change. Not that I was particularly bothered on this occasion, as it was my first time catching Robin live, despite being a fan since the early 80s. My bad. 

Pretty decent sounding recording - nice clear sound - with only the (very) odd drunken nutter baying mindlessly across the crowd. Thank heavens for cards! Omnis would have picked up every cretin in the building. Taped from DFC, just forward of the board. Robin's vocals at the beginning of Twice Removed... were a bit buried in the PA mix, but improves. You will also hear the PA cutting out for about ten seconds near the end of Go My Way, with only the stage amplification keeping it going. In one or two quieter moments, you might hear a train going over - it was the Arches, after all :-) It's a great venue and my first visit was to see Underworld way back in the early 90s.
