Notes
great performance. Sound quality is B+. There is some hiss and some minor distortion, especially in the electric sets. The sound seems somewhat compressed. I know this is widely circulated in various forms, none of which I've heard. I can't tell you how it compares to the other sources. I suspect that this is a cleaner version.

Unknown original source, but sounds like a ROIO captured from the PA stack. Sound quality is full & upfront like a soundboard, with occasional audience sounds nearby (but not too nearby). Between the clean full sound and the lack of negatives like crowd interference, hiss or (much) tape distortion, this is IMO an astonishly good Transband recording (maybe the best available), and very much worth the effort of fixing so we can all hear it at correct pitch.

This concert I taped with an old AIWA walkman and an extra stereo-microphone (I can't remember what exact equipment I used those days), but what I do remember that it was my first concert I taped with that equipment. (..and that there was another guy standing diredctly beneath me also taping. A long time friend of mine since then!!)(..and he's still banned up here!!)

The sound quality is very good. This is a real and typical open air-recording with many people around my microphone talking and shouting (specially on these loud numbers like "Birds").
I recorded it in the middle of the audience about 25 meters from the stage on the left side.

It was hot, the area was filled up with about 50.000 people. I partly taped the MSG and Jethro Tull in complete, both can be found up here. I also taped King Crimson, they played a great gig, the best gig that afternoon - and I am a Neil Young-supporter and have nothing to do with that band called "King Crimson". I lost the tape of "King Crimson" over the years - have no idea where it is. But -as it is not allowed to seed them here it is not as tragic (for me).

This was my very first ever Neil Young in concert-experience in a long row. ..and for me it started with the worst. I saw him so many times afterwards, but this here wasn't a real good start. As I listened to it after many years I thought: oh, great start, but after half that concert it's getting boring: so many bad songs, for example "Like an Inca" is way too
long - played here that evening with that band. I would love to hear it with the Horse, could be there for 60 minutes, but not that version you will listen to here. And the Hurricane is just a quick played simple Hurricane played for the about 50.000 people on the field. Anyway, as this is from my master. it's worth a download and put it in your collection.

notes:
I obtained this show from Rustie Scott. Our first meeting was at a Rustfest before the Neil Young Greendale tour stop in Columbus OH in 2003. Scott and I had attended the Cleveland show in 1974, though we weren't there together. He had informed me that he taped the show and as soon as he had it remastered and transfered to cd, that he would provide me with a copy. Up until now, the only recording of this show that I knew existed was provided to me by Rustie Joe Ray in Alaska (not Wasilla!). Joe Ray sent me tapes of the show. It was from my first live Neil show and it sounded great!
As a bonus, Disc 3 includes The Band's set. They performed immediately before CSNY. Due to illness(?), Richard Manuel was unable to play.
Bill Graham announces that as well as the members of The Band.

Remastered notes:
It needed some level balancing, and some glitch removal (by monoizing very short segments) and I re-edited some tracks to eliminate a few gaps and overlap, and to make for a better distribution of the 3 discs so all would be less than 74 min. each. with no fadeins or fadeouts
or abrupt starts or ends to discs.  I have not rearranged any of the sequence, including the placement of the Band set. I did not find alot of glitches, only in a few of the tracks, but removed every one I could find, and if any remain now they would not be loud ones, I don't think any remain at all. the ones I removed were louder than any part of the track was, so I think many will find this a welcome  improvement. the result of this is.

notes
This is another wonderful audience recording made by two of the pioneers of stealth audience taping, Harv Kaslow and Craig Todd. The tapers turned the Uher and and off several times and I have left the recording "as is". It was a pretty rough crowd as lots of people were breaking in to the small (holds appox. 6,000) Greek Theater.
