Notes by the uploader/trader:
A 6 day restoration project ...
For those who like details ... I Took the original video seeded here a couple of years back and split it into video stream and audio. Took jazzfromhell's uncompressed DAT WAV and matched it up against the original AC3 audio. Resampled to 48 KHz, normalized the resulting file to 0db and saved it to WAV.
Took the elementary video stream, resized it to fit the screen, made a couple of minor repairs, then ran several filters. De-interlaced with a 1 pix vertical smooth and a light sharpening. Adjusted individual channel levels to keep the color matched as close as possible to the original while darkening the black and lightening the white. I added a light grain removal to take out some edge artifacts and flat surface graininess. Anyway, 36 hours of rendering later, I had a new single pass VBR mpeg at maximum setting and I re-authored the DVD with the best audio possible.

Some of you might not like the light edge texturing that has replaced the compression artifacts, but it's the price that had to be paid for working on a compressed mpeg rather than a clean uncompressed copy ... The loss of the blue line on the left and VHS crackling across the bottom is an improvement, but I'm going to post a few comparative screen grabs so you can decide whether it's worth the download.

This is a recently surfaced recording. I was contacted by the taper himself, who wanted me to make sure it came into circulation as quickly as possible, to avoid bootlegging. It's a fantastic audience recording, NR'ed by the taper himself. I asked for a raw copy, but he assured me that "this is as good as it gets". It does indeed sound awesome, despite that NR feeling we all know and have mixed feelings about.
I have patched in a small segment of Pound For A Brown from my old tape, while the second tape flip in Bamboozled is hardly worth any extra effort.

Three years ago, RDNZL gave me the Pre Broadcast VHS to upgrade our current broadcast source.
We decided to wait to see if another source for the Penguin, Kung Fu, RDNZL section could be found. It wasn't. However, I was able to replace the audio for the whole warm-up section with an uncompressed mono FM audio broadcast from BengoFury and a fresh transfer of Cosmik from the Musicbyran broadcast from tordmullet Smile. The Opopoppa Special is now complete with the Studio intro and outro and because of the fresh transfer, now comes with uncompressed mono audio.

Frank Zappa - 1969-08-10 - Warrensville Heights, OH (AUD/FLAC)

(Audience FLAC)

Another Don Preston stage recording.

Musicarnival
Warrensville Heights, OH
1969 08 10

~~ From 4th gen stage recording ~~

Here's an alternate version of the walk-Kristoftof version. I call it an upgrade, but maybe not everyone will agree - this 4th gen has a lot of clarity, but also a harsh treble, which some might find too hard on the ear. I think it can be balanced to some degree with EQ, without losing too much detail.

Note: I'm guessing the jam after the cut in track 07 is from King Kong, with the head of the song missing. However, I've chosen to lump it together with the foregoing vocal improvisations into one track.

Best sounding (slightly NRed above 18 kHz) but incomplete copy (missing Joe's Garage).

Despite its slight NRed nature (frequency drop above 18-19 kHz)
we have discussed in Samples and decided to present this copy here in FZ Shows for now,

If and when a superior sounding lossless copy of this SBD source turns up

Speed correction info:
intro -> tuning: +60 cts
Road Ladies: +55 cts

Notes:
Like most of the shows from the first American leg of this tour (and the third American leg of 1974), this is a very loose, relaxed show, with plenty of quotes in Dupree's Paradise. Despite the hissiness of this tape, it's clearly the best of four tapes sampled

Frank Zappa - 1969-07-08 - Boston, MA (SBD/FLAC)

(Soundboard FLAC)

This is a new remastered version of one of the best early Mothers bootlegs, if not THE best. The performance, choice of repertoire and overall sound quality are exceptional. This one is a no-brainer for anyone even slightly interested in live Mothers Of Invention.

Circulating copies of this show are off by 40 samples causing the stereo image to smear and lean to the right. Fixing this did a world of good and centered and stabilized the stereo image. While I was at it, I fixed the muddy EQ which really brought the recording to life. Nothing else was done to enhance the sound. The copy of the show used here is said to be a 4th gen copy but I think it sounds better than that, possibly 2nd or 3rd gen with some reel gens in there, but who knows. At some point, the channels were horribly misaligned and it has circulated this way for a long time.

This version of the show is unedited and has several more minutes of material and the correct sequencing compared to the original boot LP and "Beat The Boots" versions.
