featuring on the bill is the central Malian singer/ngoni (lute) player Bassekou Kouyaté with his band Ngoni Ba – groups fusing traditional and popular styles, who have taken the world music scene by storm, mixing the blues of Ali Farka Toure with the pop of Amadou & Mariam. The band should be completed by Bassekou's sons Moustafa Kouyaté and Mamadou Kouyaté, who played the ngoni-ba lutes (which come in three registers), Moctar Kouate who shook the calabash, Abou Sissoko who handled the medium ngoni-ba, and Amy Sacko (also Bassekou's wife) provided the lead vocals. Also part of the same prom, torrented separately, were Azerbaijan singers Fidan Hajiyeva & Gochaq Askarov, and before all musicians from the Mande culture of southern Mali, Trio Da Kali.
