Recording length: 37 minutes (1 CD, incomplete)
Quality: A+
Source: Multi-track

Lineage:

01 - Procession [cut]
02 - Father To Son
03 - Ogre Battle
04 - Son And Daughter
05 - Keep Yourself Alive
06 - Seven Seas Of Rhye
07 - Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll
08 - Liar [cut]

Notes:
This is a pre-LP copy in superb quality, rendering all previous versions to be obsolete. Some gaps between songs, as well as the beginnings of Procession and Liar, are filled in with one of the old LP sources.

This soundboard recording (multi-track, to be precise, since it certainly has been properly mixed) contains numerous vocal overdubs. The most glaring example of this is 3 minutes into Liar, when Freddie sings "time after time", and the next line begins before the previous one has ended. Keeping the overdubs in mind, the fact that it's perfectly mixed, the between-song segments having been edited, and that it's 37 minutes long, I'd like to suggest the possibility that this may have once been considered to be a live album by the band and ultimately shelved.

Simply put, overdubs aside, this recording showcases the band at their heaviest and rawest. This is one of those few truly essential Queen recordings recommended to any fan of rock music.

The video contains Freddie asking the audience "What comes next?" (between "I want you" and "To be a woman") during the second chorus of Son And Daughter, and it is cut out on the audio source. This edit is yet another reason why I think this was intended to be an official release at one point.

Badfinger - 1974-03-31 - Cambridge, MA (AUD/FLAC)

Badfinger
The Performance Center, Cambridge, MA
March 31, 1974

While this is a mighty fine set on its own (two sets, actually!), I guess that at this point in rock history reconsideration it's better known as "that time Badfinger 'closed' for Big Star's still-officially-unreleased mighty bitchen March '74 show in Cambridge" (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=188420). Which is fine. Some clown wrote in Uncut (a magazine I otherwise like a lot) that Big Star had "as many hits as they deserved" — that guy's gonna get bitch-slapped by ME real effin' quick. But I digress! The thing is this double Badfinger show deserves to be on the tracker again, so here it is, with minimal Manimal modifications:

- Added pdf artwork created by a Dime member back in 2008, I believe (thanks!)
- Added tags, including "digital artwork" taken from the aforementioned pdf
- Changed filenames
- Created new ffp and md5 files

comments:
this recording now includes the closing radio comments, along with the whole concert and opening radio comments before that. Roxy had last been to the Orpheum in Boston just about 3 years earlier (for another WBCN broadcast). this one was on the tour of their splendid 1979 album "manifesto" which had a few shows in the U.S. broadcasted. since this was recorded on one side of a reel, there is no tape flip interruption, and no commercial interruptions either. it's all an uninterrupted recording, maybe one of my most often played reels, but it's still a reel, and those rarely get played. A very nice show, to be enjoyed again and again.

VERY LOW (1st or 2nd.) Gen. SBD > ? > CDR > EAC > SHN by unknown (Aug. 29 2004)

> TLH
made .ST5 to make sure future FFP matches
decode to WAV
tested WAV for MPG, confirmed lossless
made .FFP to make sure it was same as .ST5, confirmed they matched
deleted the SHN files, and the .FFP and .ST5
> WAV Joiner
merged all WAV files to into a single big one, in prep. for better tracking
> CD WAVE
removed two spots of repeated of talking, probably due to a tape copy from the master. One is right before 45 minutes, and the other near the 50 min. mark
made new tracks
> computer / Notepad
Renamed tracks to be more user friendly
Made these notes you are reading of the setlist, band members, and other info. (none which weren't on with the SHN file set.)
> TLH
incode to FLAC
made new FFP and MD5
confirmed FFP and MD5
> Circulation

If burning to audio, CD 1 : 01-10, CD 2 : 11-14, would probably be the best spot.

* "The Cabooze", that Mayall is mentioning, is a still existing (and probably will be forever) Minneapolis hippie/biker bar. A lot of my local friends play there. Sometimes national acts, esp. if they were blues artists. I think John is happy that he is playing in front of 3000 or so, compared to 600. Ironically, this is mostly the place I saw him in the years that followed, before I moved.
