Notes:
This gig was one to remember, without a doubt. None of my friends like this guy. In fact, one even said that he was not interested in seeing a guy wank over his guitar. He was right. It was the usual Yngwie masturbating all over his guitar but you know what? It's the one time I can handle watching a guy masturbate! I expected it. I bought the ticket anyway, knowing this was going to be one wankfest I would actually enjoy and I definitely enjoyed it.
Sure Yngwie's soloing is self-indulgent and at times a bit too much, lacking musical depth to some but I seem to absorb its musical energy and feed it back out on my drum kit. I'm not sure what it is exactly. Perhaps it's my penchant for classical music in a rock setting and I am just a drummer at the end of the day!
Yngwie and his bandmates really set the stage on fire that night and from the mighty vocals of Doogie to the thundering metronomic precision of Jens, there was nothing I could possibly fault the band for. It was good solid neo-classical rock at its finest. I heard where Symphony X's Micahel Romeo got his influences from (another favourite band of mine) and perhaps that made me enjoy it all the more.
A long and gruelling tour didn't stop these guys from giving it their all. I'm sure you'll hear that for yourself.
On to the technical stuff, I'm not terribly impressed with this one given my location. My ticket purchasing skills back then left a lot to be desired. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if I ever did release this one but I did recently listen back to the master CD I engineered and I must admit, I was appalled with myself at the result. So, I was inspired to right the wrong by remastering this recording. Good thing I always keep the originals otherwise this never would have been salvageable!
So, having wound up at the far right, the best I could hope for was a decent mono mix from the PA. Thankfully, the sound guy did a mono mix. Unfortunately, it was far from a good mix. The main hi-hats are just way too bright and cutting, the midrange was a bit excessive from the guitars (perhaps at Yngwie's request) but lacking top-end, the vocals were reasonable though sometimes getting lost in the mix, the bass guitar lacked definition and Derek's keyboards were sometimes a little too bright depending on the patch used.
It was painful but I had to come to a compromise with the sound in order to get a better overall result. This one gets a C. Listen to the sample and be your own judge is all I can really say.

Notes by the uplaoder
I've always thought that supertramp were more brilliant and elaborate than many allegedly progressive groups, hence the labelling under "progressive rock" category, as this is by all accounts a Supertramp greatest hits. A great selection of great songs, really, from the ballads to the epics. And his voice it's still the same. WARNING: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording ONLY FOR COMPLETISTS. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging.

At the start of the encore, a drunk guy next to me started throwing punches to a stranger. Apparently he didn't like him carrying an umbrella. Considering there were hundreds of umbrellas, maybe he decided that the last song was a good time to go after 'em one by one? I stopped him and gave him a silent death stare. Which luckily was enough to make him retreat.

NOTE:
*track 13 is cut unfortunately due to disconnecting my mics while I was protecting against the setting rain. Its not a perfect recording as everything came across like a late arrival at the venue, not a good place to tape and some more but won't complain too much. This may help out till a better recording may pop up hopefully very soon. At least it was a wonderful show at a beautiful venue with a great setlist. It was great to see Bob's new hobby playing the Grand Piano.

Notes by the uploader
I recorded this straight off the radio using a Sony-STR-Dh820 mutichannel a/v receiver, which was plugged into my laptop. I think i possibly had the volume levels a bit too high for my tastes during the recording Not loud enough to cause distortion or ruin the recording, but loud enough where you might not have to turn the volume up too high to hear it in your car or on your headphones. I'll let you be the judge. Otherwise, I think It sounds Great! I made the recording itself using audacity 2.0, split the tracks using wave splitter ver. 2.10, and finally used traders little helper to create the flacs. Enjoy!
