This recording registers David Gilmour's first ever presentation in Brazil.

Just to put this into context, one have to understand the idolatry level Pink Floyd achieved here in this country. Not necessarely true respectful and knowledgeable fans (they are aorund, en masse) but many for the more "fashionable" and cool aspects of "following" on something that is famous and popular. Also one should consider people's hunger and demand for a gig such as this. Bear in mind Brazilians are not particularly known for their quiet speech and introvert characters. I found out the crowd in São Paulo (which included people from all around the country) to be specially hostile and ungraceful. An average Paulista won't say "please, excuse me" he (sometimes she) will more likely say "get the f@#k out of the way".

This gig is an extra date they added to the South American tour schedule after the initial sales for the December 12 date sold out overnight. This date had chairs added to the front of the venue, at exorbitantly space high ticket prices. The crowd was very diverse, age wise, which was nice. As it is common in Brazilian culture, many people were drunk out of their minds, though... An estimated 40 thousand people attended this show, which pretty much stopped all the traffic in the vicinities of the Stadium, in the already complicated friday evening streets in this chaotic American megalopole. Many people entered late into the concert. Thus all the angry Paulistas shouting people to sit down...

Location: I was around 20 m way form the left stack in what I think was a favourable setting, although people transited in front of me during the whole concert.

It was indeed a lovingly (magic) evening and the sound in the stadium was pretty decent, even though it reverberated/echoed a bit and sometimes a bit boomy. During the intro for Sorrow, I could feel my body vibrating along the "stadium guitar sound". Money started with no bass and was aborted. While wating a bit too long, David offered a few improvised chords, before being interrupted by the bass. After a second try, it was still not ready to go. Only during take 3 the song launched.

There is an abrupt volume switch down during Fat old sun. In the middle of Run like hell all "hell" broke loose and the people started ignoring the rules (it was quiet ironic, since the staff were acting like worm soldiers yelling people to sit down) and the wealthy masses rushed to the front of the stage, prompting us all to stand up and "fighting" for individual space. About what I commented earlier on peolple being drunk out of their wits, this recording bears testimony to this, unfortunately, as you will notice during the encore, which was partially spoiled by a very inconvenient young individual.

I have to say this: If Waters is the master of ideas and concepts, Gilmour is the master of melody, mood and feeling. I have rarely been so moved by the music in a concert as that night. Pure magic.

For you, damned souls thinking of selling this over the internet or on local shops, here is what I say: DON'T!

Here is a list of potential boot titles, though:

What a lovely evening to be in São Paulo.

We were just trying to see if you were paying attention...

Where the f@#k is it?

Take 3, go!

Do whatever you like with it, as long as you don't sell it in any way. I won't be doing a CD-ready version of it, so feel free to dither, remaster or whatever you feel like doing. Use it exclusively for personal, archiving and educational purposes only.
