Remaster
1. Repair Click, pops and excessive audience claps/noise in each source.
2. Adjust frequencies/EQ in each source using dynamic filters where needed.
3. Correct/Match speed and pitch of each. comparing to references
4. Complete each source by using the other to patch missing sections.
5. Synchronize sources and blend to create stereo image.
6. Correct phasing.
7. Center sound and focus stereo image.
8. Adjust dynamics and correct peak suppressions
9. Track as continuous show, as performed.
Notes:
A few mistakes are made by Steve Howe during The Ancient. Some whistles and yells can be heard in each source suggesting that the tapers were not too far from each other.
A note from Balrog:
The first time I tried to create a two-source stereo recording from the audience was in the early 1980s, when I had separate recordings of a Moody Blues show made from opposite sides of the upper loge in Boston Garden. I couldn't keep it synchronized for more than a few seconds at a time but the stereo image I heard in my headphones was incredible. I felt like my head was the size of Boston Garden and I could hear things that no single person could hear from anywhere in the venue.
This two-source stereo recording from the same location doesn't have as vast a stereo image but there's enough to make it much more enjoyable than either source alone. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts and I want to thank the "PRRP Guy" for having the skills and patience to make it possible. This upload brings new life to a tour that has never been known for excellent audience recordings. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Just to avoid any possible confusion, a two-source stereo recording is synchronized in the same manner as a matrix recording but the channels are discrete rather than left overlaid on left and right overlaid on right.
