JTT REMASTER
Just the straight concert from keithdylan's Reel to Reel source
With thanks to keithdylan I have tidied up his Reel to Reel source to present the complete show in as clean as possible condition. No alterations have been made to the sound other than using the best channel in each track, removing a few gliches, cleaning track transitions and fading where needed. I consider this to be the best source I have heard and do not like composite recordings so made this for my own listening pleasure. It came out well so here's hoping some others may want a copy.

Finally... Here at last! The long lost never thought to have existed... "The Who Isle Of Wight 1969"! We here at 4Reel were blown away at finding such a gem and direct from the 1/2 inch open reel it was taped on! Shot from the front of the stage, this unknown (until now) footage is a classic and historical treasure!

Along with this footage we have also included "Woodstock 69". This black and white footage shot from on the stage on Pete's side is the best we've seen as it is a 1st generation master which was transferred to DVCAM from 3/4 inch tape. We have also replaced the audio with a better sound-board audio source. This thing smokes!

Lineage:
Flat transfer from 7 1/2 ips BASF stereo master tape -> Steve Hammonds 8-CD set Disc #5? -> CD -> CD... -> ? -> CD Source -> EAC -> WAV -> FLAC

DimeTravel Remastering 2016-02-xx ::: wav -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, slight channel/phase alignment, fades, manual dropout repairs, cable crackle repairs in a couple of spots, removed micro-gaps between songs, volume adjustments, 00:00-33:00 +0.5% pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification (33:00-end was OK), slight equalisation done to left channel to raise bass] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> frogster. The Mk2 version is narrower stereo to balance the sound somewhat. There are positive & negative aspects to the changes so approach with a listening ear. I enjoy both versions.

TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
Seeing as how I'm only a moderate fan of Led Zeppelin live, I'm pretty reluctant to acquire live shows unless they're nice soundboard sources and/or from their best live period, which, in my opinion, is 71-73. Nevertheless, it's hard to argue that this performance, along with many other performances from the same tour, is outstanding. Zeppelin are completely on their game. Even Plant sounds great, rarely singing out of tune or fumbling with the lyrics as he's so prone to do. The sound quality is excellent for the most part, being a nice mono soundboard, patched where necessary with a fairly good audience recording. The sections of the show that are audience are listed above. I decided to remaster this recording because I knew with a few slight adjustments it good go from being very good to great. Hopefully you feel the same way. I have remastered both the soundboard and the audience sections. No noise reduction/limiting of any kind has been used. The extent of my work is done in careful equalization. The recording now sounds brighter and crisper. Some people will like the original Empress Valley source better as I know my remasters are not for everyone. Please check out the source through the link provided below to see if this version is for you. This is probably my favorite Zeppelin boot as of yet and will get many repeated listens at high volume from my stereo! Enjoy!

^:Combination Of Both TheAudience An dThe Soundboard

It's a Wonderful performance, all of the 1971 tour was incredible, but there was just something special about the performances that lead to the closing of the North American tour before they did their stint in Japan. They played with such intensity and had such passion for what was then the new material, it's great to hear them play staples like " Black Dog" and " Stairway To Heaven" with the passion they had when they first recorded it. The soundboard is one of the best out there, perfect distribution of all the instruments and vocals, it's crisp and bright, and very warm, you can feel like you're right there on stage, there's even moments where you can hear comments from the audience where others totally block out the crowd. The audience recording is slightly distant, they did the best job they probably could, and Empress has tried to match the sound of the audience tape to the soundboard to try and make the transition from the tapes as smoothly as possible. It's not that bad a tape though, no chit chat from the taper or the crowd, but the they did fiddle with the mic and the equipment during the acoustic set, mostly on " That's The Way", that would really be the only flaw in the tape.

notes:
I obtained this show from Rustie Scott. Our first meeting was at a Rustfest before the Neil Young Greendale tour stop in Columbus OH in 2003. Scott and I had attended the Cleveland show in 1974, though we weren't there together. He had informed me that he taped the show and as soon as he had it remastered and transfered to cd, that he would provide me with a copy. Up until now, the only recording of this show that I knew existed was provided to me by Rustie Joe Ray in Alaska (not Wasilla!). Joe Ray sent me tapes of the show. It was from my first live Neil show and it sounded great!
As a bonus, Disc 3 includes The Band's set. They performed immediately before CSNY. Due to illness(?), Richard Manuel was unable to play.
Bill Graham announces that as well as the members of The Band.

Remastered notes:
It needed some level balancing, and some glitch removal (by monoizing very short segments) and I re-edited some tracks to eliminate a few gaps and overlap, and to make for a better distribution of the 3 discs so all would be less than 74 min. each. with no fadeins or fadeouts
or abrupt starts or ends to discs.  I have not rearranged any of the sequence, including the placement of the Band set. I did not find alot of glitches, only in a few of the tracks, but removed every one I could find, and if any remain now they would not be loud ones, I don't think any remain at all. the ones I removed were louder than any part of the track was, so I think many will find this a welcome  improvement. the result of this is.

This recording was made at the prestigious Rainbow Theater in London while the band was going through musical and personnel transitions. The year prior, they had added keyboardist Michael McDonald (ex-Steely Dan) and moved their West Coast rock sound more in the direction of adult pop/R&B. Of course, McDonald (who would later go on to release two successful albums of Motown covers) had a lot to do with the shifting direction as well as the band's newfound success.

For this tour, they were promoting Living on the Fault Line, which was very successful but failed to yield any major radio hits. It would also be the last album that original member Tom Johnston would make with the band until his return to the group in 1992. Johnston, who had increasingly started moving away from their new musical direction, was convinced he could have a successful solo career. He remained on the Living on the Fault Line album and tour, but he knew his days in The Doobie Brothers were numbered and therefore had a relatively laid back role.

This audience seems oblivious to the turmoil within the group. The Doobies thrilled this British crowd with a strong performance that featured many of their hits and the best material from the new album. In an effort to push the new record, several key tracks were left out including "Listen To The Music," "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Long Train Running." Still, there remains a fair amount of the hits, including "China Groove," "Takin' It To the Streets," "It Keeps You Runnin'" and "Black Water." Other highlights include "For Someone Special," "Little Darling (I Need You)" and the title track of the new record, "Livin' On the Fault Line." They also do a killer version of the old Motown classic, "Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me)."

One more of the Euro/UK shows on what would be the last Van Halen tour with Roth until 2007. A pretty short set, probably the shortest since 1978, although there may be a few minutes missing from this recording. Love Roth's line "I can hear that old Swiss ryhthm now baby!" at the beginning of "Hot for Teacher." A nice recording overall, the UK/Euro tapers made some of the better recordings of the 1984 tour.
