Tapers Notes:
There was a lot of traffic on the way to the gig, so I missed the first few songs. Security was really tight, so I only recorded this show using the internal mike from my cell phone. I had cord issues, so the first couple tracks have static. I went with friends and their hoots and hollars and talking aren't too bad. I was drinking and had to take a rest break, so one track in the middle is missing. My batteries went bad towards the end of the show, so the encore is missing. Actually, none of that happened, because I've been taping since the 1970s.

Seriously, Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall with a ridiculous tight back up band. Who could resist. We were a bit too close for the perfect tape, but still a good pull. The ALD was new, so there was a learning curve for that unit and proper placement for the first night.

Another one from the trading days. I got this one probably about 12 or 13 years ago. I was always surprised that I never really saw it making the rounds on torrent sites, so I figured that I would put it out there. This is probably my favorite collection of Steely Dan outtakes, featuring embryonic versions of songs that would appear not only on Katy Lied, but others that would resurface on The Royal Scam and Aja. Also, I would rank “Mr. Sam” as the greatest lost Steely Dan track, even above “The Second Arrangement.”

We are approaching the end, after 10 years of Special Series, so I wanted top bring something from my archives which is a kind of special. This is a rare, complete, recording of Kate's only show in Paris, during her 1979 tour. This was held at the rather elegant Theatre des Champs-Élysées in avenue Montaigne. I got this one about 20 years ago from a friend who got a copy from the taper. All I could know is that the equipment he recorded the show was not the most modern one but I think this is a nice sounding recording for 1979.

The setlist is not a surprise since it did not change during the whole tour, but of course playing the Gymnopedie in the country of Satie was a kind of special.

I would rate the sound of this as 7/10, a bit hissy but on the other side the audience is not heard a lot and not disturbing the performance.
