This is THE PERFORMANCE of Santana, between the greatest ever done in almost 50 years of career. The band was clutch and furious on the Freedom tour and, as you may see here, even tried some Jimi Hendrix and other Buddy work from the 70's. 3 hours of fire, if you haven't got it yet this is your time. I know this show appeared here a couple years ago in 2 different video forms(DVDset and straight broadcast video file), when it was re-broadcasted incomplete by German TV MDR. Recently, I saw an Youtube user put the whole package online, might be a copy of the original broadcast by DDR.

Notes
Nice soundboard from PG´s album number 3. Unlike many other artists, Gabriel´s soundboard and radio broadcasts are extremely rare so if you don´t have this one, you will enjoy it. This is still the early stage of the tour so the band is a bit unrehearsed. I remember owning a copy of this back in the mid 80´s which was very hissy. This copy from RLR collection sounds much better in my ears. This is the complete except for Moribund which has one section cut because of the tape flip. But the rest is there, including Peter´s attempt to make the audience singing during Games Without Frontiers...

Comments:

There is already a nice audience recording in circulation, but as this is FM quality, is demonstrably better. Fidelity is fairly typical (compressed) for a local FM broadcast; I believe it was aired live on a local radio station the night of the show. This doesn't have the sound quality of, say, a WWI or WXRT broadcast, but it's extremely enjoyable nonetheless -- and probably the best recording in wide circulation from the tour. With the exception of a CD switch (the seeder recorded this live directly on a stand-alone CDR), this represents the complete performance.

Taken from the web:
Before this release, several other bootleg DVDs had compiled 1960s Who footage, with varying degrees of success. It's difficult, however, to imagine a better, more comprehensive one than this two-DVD collection, which assembles almost four hours of live, mimed, promo, interview, and documentary clips from various sources. The image and sound quality are usually as good as, or better than, what's seen or heard on those previous compilations, and most of clips appear in the most complete form known to exist. There are a wealth of riches here, from relatively common (at least to the people who collect this sort of thing) items such as their 1965 Ready Steady Go and Richmond Jazz Festival appearances to some little-seen sequences such as their mimed June 1966 appearance on the Swedish Popside show; a live July 1966 London college gig, including a not-too-audible version of "C.C. Rider"; the Monterey Pop film outtake "Pictures of Lily"; live and interview footage from Helsinki, Finland, in May 1967; and promotional films for Tommy, linked by a few interview segments in which Pete Townshend explains the songs. There's even the U.S. promo film for "Substitute," in which they mimed the amended lyrics (omitting the reference to a black father) in the American 45 version. It doesn't gather every last scrap of 1960s Who footage: there's nothing from their Woodstock appearance, and their famous violent performance of "My Generation" on The Smothers Brothers in 1967 is missing the end bit where Townshend smashes Tommy Smothers' guitar. Some of the portions are obviously lifted from sources that are easily accessible via commercial releases such as The Kids Are Alright, Monterey Pop, and The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, and no doubt some of the clips could have been presented in better condition if this was an authorized production. The likelihood of such a thorough authorized compilation seems distant, however, leaving the gap for bootlegs such as this to exploit. Despite those very minor shortcomings, it's an amazing document, and totals up to the most convincing evidence ever assembled as to the Who's mesmerizing power as a visual performance act.

Black Sabbath - Born Again (The j-m-gart Edition)

This audience video from Montreal '83 is the only complete visual testament to the BORN AGAIN tour currently available to tape traders. It was shot wide from the center balcony on a tripod. I am told that this filmer was also responsible for a Van Halen audience film in Montreal on the following year.

Quite honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I first viewed this film. The sound is very good, but sounds like it was recorded in a large hall. The video is a bit dark, cloudy and often distant. The camera captures the whole stage from a wide angle in the center, but doesn't get close enough for the sort of clarity one might hope for. The beginning of "Children Of The Grave" is cut and the complete running time is about 90 minutes altogether.

It's too bad this one isn't a bit better, but its still essential viewing for anyone who wants a glimpse of the infamous Stonehenge stage set, which was too large to fit into most of the venues they had booked for the Canadian tour! Inevitably, Stonehenge was trimmed down to manageable proportions and the larger pieces were dispensed with.

While it is true that director Lyndsey Clennell filmed this concert and soundcheck to be used in the promotional videos for "Trashed" and "Zero The Hero", none of this footage has ever surfaced. His film was done to provide the audience perspective for the live shots and was later edited down into shorter clips later. The aforementioned audience film is obviously different than what is shown in the BORN AGAIN promos.

I’ve had a few people tell me that the close-up shots were filmed during soundchecks before the actual concert began. This was definitely the case for “Trashed”, which the band never performed live (at least on any recordings I’ve found).

Glen Drover was at this show and remembers this day quite well. He wrote, “They were filming earlier for 2 videos, which I’m sure you have seen all the live footage you see from the “Zero The Hero” video and I believe there was one more? “Trashed”? All that stuff was from Montreal. The crowd live shots were of course done during the show, but all of the close up stage shot were done during the day. This is all accurate!!!”

Default PCR DVD Pink Floyd-Blurry Visions
This is a title that I am especially happy to be able to share with you nice folks. It's been a long, long time in coming. It all started when I received a Floyd VoIO that contained some bonus materials. These materials, I thought, were extremely poorly done. I wished at the time that I could fix it up a bit... But, sadly, I did not have any of the original source materials - so I couldn't do a better job no matter how much I wanted to.

Off I went in pursuit of the necessary source materials. As I skipped down the Yellow Brick Road, I came across many wild and hairy creatures, indeed. Among those kindly souls was Andrew Webber - a very nice guy who has been helping me weed VoIOs since this group began. Although I saw no lions or tigers, I did stumble across bear - the moderator of a certain 15 year old Floyd discussion group. I was given nourishment and provisions by our host, Steve Bennett. And, the way to the Emerald City was illuminated by our dear friend Simon.

Thus fortified, accompanied, and directed, I was able to obtain the necessary source materials and forge them into a medium that everyone can easily enjoy.

What I am speaking of, specifically, is a number of films that are available online for "immediate viewing" - that is you can view them but can't download them, capture them, or manipulate them. Some of the host sites still exist - some have gone away. These films are what I would generally call "promo" films - music videos, films made to promote a particular album's release, and so forth. Typically, these films have not been shown on MTV or VH1 or anything similar. In other words, the internet versions are all there are. When these sites go away - and some already have - the films will simply not be available. The films, on the sites that are still around, can only be viewed in miniature on a small computer screen by those folks who don't have a dial-up connection.

This just did not seem, to me, to be a good thing. Even having the source files on a CDR does not solve the problem for those who fans who are not terribly computer literate. (Try explaining how to run a Flash film offline to someone who barely knows what the big blue "e" on their desktop is!)

What was obviously needed was to convert the films - properly - to DVD. This way anyone can view them offline at anytime on a nice large screen.

Because the films all originate from an internet source of one kind or another , they suffer from data compression. That's just the way the original files are, folks. There's nothing that can be done about it. This gives the films a slightly blurry feel. You'll know it when you see it. It also gives the disk it's title - Blurry Visions. The important thing was to avoid making the films any *more* blurry than they already were!!

Although the pickier folks out there might point out that one or two of the films were, indeed, shown on MTV (such as the Learning To Fly video), I would argue in return that I rather like this version. Plus, I had a few minutes of room left on the disk - and after all - why not include it ?

The vast bulk of these films have never been seen offline anywhere before. I'm more proud of this collection than any of my prior work. I have watched this disk over and over - more than any of my other disks by far.

Here is another very nice compilation of vintage performances. Got this on HungerCity long time ago, thanks Kindly note this was publicly broadcasted in the US back then, so there is absolutely no nudity in this show. This was an hour-long show that ran on network TV (!)from July 1968 to May 1970. The ever hip and debonair Hef surrounded himself with a bunch of attractive young pseudo-sophisticates, salted each week with a variety of personalities ranging from Milton Berle to Mort Sahl, Sid Caesar to Lenny Bruce, Roman Polanski (and Sharon Tate) to Paul Mazursky. There was also some amazing music.

Here's a description of the show by Chris Rywalt:
"The camera moved lazily across a room where a party was going on. A party unlike any party I had ever seen, on film or otherwise. People chatted in small groups. Everyone had a drink in their hand. Blacks and whites mingled freely. Almost everyone was smoking. Quiet jazz filled the room. Everyone was dressed stylishly and with care. Everyone looked attractive in a comfortable way. No one looked like a model -- the guests all just looked like handsome, pleasant people. The light was soft, yellowish, and diffuse.

"The camera wandered past the guests, stopping here and there and catching fragments of their conversation. The camera rolled along very slowly. Amazingly slowly. [snip]

"Later in the show, the camera panned along and encountered a band. They were playing jazz. Gradually, as the camera didn't move, it became apparent that this was a featured band, performing for the show.

"And all of After Dark was like this. Long, languorous camera shots, lingering on details, while an incredibly civilized party went on, with everyone drinking and smoking and grooving to the music. And occasionally one of the guests would turn out to be someone with a talent, who would graciously agree to share some of it with us."

Info from 'Eight Arms To Hold You' by Chip Madinger and Mark Easter:
"Now that he had helped Ringo attempt to resuscitate his recording career, it was time for Paul to figure out the next move of his own. With the (apparent) help of Denny Laine on some of the songs, he laid down several demos for a projected new LP project that would reunite him with George Martin. An August 1980 compilation of demos prepared for George consisted of old and new material for consideration for the upcoming LP project. The running order of the tape was as follows: 'Seems Like Old Times', 'Ballroom Dancing', 'Take It Away', 'Turkey And Peacock' (perhaps an early version of 'Peacocks'), 'It's As Simple As That (Tremolo Cello)'. 'Robber Riff', 'We All Stand Together', 'Stiff Tracks' (most likely 'Boil Crisis' and 'Give Us A Chord, Roy' which were very much like the tunes being released by Stiff Records at the time), 'Keep Under Cover', 'Average Person', 'Unbelievable Experience', 'Stop, You Don't Know Where She Came From', 'Wanderlust' and 'Ebony And Ivory'. While some of the songs ('Take It Away', 'Ballroom Dancing') were particulary strong, some of the tunes Paul submitted ('The Unbelievable Experience', 'Boil Crisis') were bad enough to force George to tell Paul to scrap them and write more; this he did. However, in 1987, an excellent quality tape of some of this material was released on bootleg as 'Rude Studio Demos' (a CD version was issued in 1989 from the same tape). In 1995, excerpts of several of the tracks were aired on various episodes of 'Oobu Joobu', and although they were in superior quality to the bootlegged versions, all of the airings were incomplete."
