Comments:
Courtesy of Tapeboy and the JEMS team, here is the final installment in JEMS' series of outstanding master recordings from The Who's fall 1979 American tour. This one represents the second of two non-consecutive dates The Who performed near Washington, D.C.; a substitute for the canceled Providence show. As usual, J pulled another fine recording what I assume was a less-than-acoustically-perfect arena ... for a late 1970s recording, this again features outstanding dynamics, and virtually no close-mic crowd noise.

The performance itself is a fairly typical setlist, about five minutes shorter than the first Landover show. The one setlist standout is the inclusion of an incendiary version of "Magic Bus" as the final encore - the only time they played it in this slot on the tour. Unfortunately, the medley at the end is considerably shortened, and "How Can You Do It Alone" is dropped as a result.

Notes:
The idea for this compilation based on near the same setlist, which the Springsteen tribute band 'Tramps Like Us' played last summer in the NJ/NY area. Tramps Like Us has consulted with a panel of Bruce experts to create what they would consider to be the greatest Springsteen concert NEVER played! The setlist was chosen by Mike Appel (Former Springsteen manager & producer), Stan Goldstein (Springsteen blogger for NJ.com), Lawrence Kirsch (Author of 2 best selling Springsteen books “For You” and “The Light in Darkness”), Thomas Wilkinson (Former program director for SiriusXM's E Street Radio) and Mark Salore (Front man of 'Tramps Like Us'). As I read the announcement on backstreets.com and saw the setlist for this gig I was very impressed. I had hoped that someone would tape it, but unfortunately it won't. The idea for this compilation was born. Of course, it's a lot of personal taste.

A big thank you goes out to Flynn who gave me many suggestions to select the best version of each track. Further I want to thank you the JEMS crew, Hoserama, Ev2, Spider Web and Fanatic Records for their permission to use their work.

COMMENT: This is not the Tricone release requested yesterday in 2 friendly comments made on another upload. This was given to me years ago and I do not think it was posted by my friend on Dime. For people who would just like to hear this show, without it being from Tricone, its all yours.

This is an incomplete show, the quality is about a 3+/4 out of 6.
The performance is first rate, the entire band seems on and EC's solos are sharp and right on the money!!!

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - 1993-11-12 - Genova, IT (AUD/FLAC)

David Sylvian & Rupert Frypp - Kings II (Genova 1993)
Recorded 12th November 1993 at Teatro Verdi, Genova, Italy.

EAC from CD: Flying Tigers FTCD 0046, Italy (1994)

David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards)
Robert Fripp (guitar, Frippertronics)
Trey Gunn (Stick)
Pat Mastelotto (drums)
Michael Brook (guitar)

01 God's Monkey 5'55
02 Brightness Falls 6'39
03 Every Colour You Are 5'47
04 Jean the Birdman 4'04
05 Firepower 7'45
06 The Only One To Be Loved 4'57 [Damage]
07 Tallow Moon 6'20 [Exposure]
08 Gone To Earth 2'26
09 20th Century Dreaming 8'45
10 Wave 6'22
11 River Man/Darshan 16'24

Duration: 75:27

This is another very good to excellent audience recording, probably recorded by the same taper as "Kings". This has more of a 'live atmosphere' than "A New Dream". All instruments and vocals are clear, drums occasionally a bit punchy.

> The package is a CD size cardboard one, with 4 individual CD sleeves inside, each made to look like a 45 RPM singles picture sleeve. There is a photo of the Trip Club poster, Poor Richard's poster, Balloon Farm poster, and a few photos of the band and a photo of Andy Warhol peeling a large banana on the back cover. The 64-page booklet includes a Sterling Morrison interview with Greg Barrios, a review of VU & Nico album by Timothy Jacobs from Vibrations No. 2, July, 1967, Chicago Happenings by Larry McCombes from Zig Zag, Vol. 5, No. 1, April/May, 1974, New York Art And The Velvet Underground by Jonathan Richman from Vibrations, September 1967, A Quiet Night at the Balloon Farm by Richard Goldstein, Problems in Urban Living by Richard Somma, and another interview with Sterling, Reflections In A Lone Star Beer. This set is supposedly a limited edition of 500 copies. **some guy from the internet**

> A magnificent CD compilation of the most legendary (and deservedly so) of all Velvet Underground bootleg material, Caught Between the Twisted Stars is a four-disc collection drawn from throughout the original band's career (plus the 1993 reunion), lavishly packaged, beautifully annotated by an epic 64 page booklet, packed with interviews and press reports, and just about all the live VU you could possibly need. From 1966, the legendary showing at Chicago's ~Poor Richard's, where John Cale took lead vocals from an unwell Lou Reed for "Heroin" and "Venus in Furs," appears in best ever sound. From 1968, the mystery-draped "Sweet Sister Ray" transforms the band's best-known soundscape into a "Pale Blue Eyes"-esque ballad; from 1969, the truly infamous and utterly devastating "guitar amp" version of "Sister Ray" explodes with such vivacity that even if you know it by heart, it'll still take you by surprise. The performance was taped, apparently, with the recording equipment connected straight to Lou Reed's guitar monitor, rendering band and vocals a ghost in the distance while unimagined chords, riffs, and solos slice the top off your skull. Elsewhere, "A Short Lived Torture of Cacophony," from a New York performance in 1965, turns out to be a gripping rendition of the pre-Velvets Reed composition "Fever in My Pocket," while a pair of performances from Reed, John Cale, and Nico's 1972 reunion at the Paris ~Bataclan, have a sparse, acoustic charm which stands in absolute polarity to everything else on the box. Occasionally across the four discs, the sound quality lets you down a little -- "Chic Mystique," a rare jam from early 1966, is essentially hiss and drum beat with dissonant ambience somewhere in the distance, while the oft-praised "Venus Heroin" medley is scarcely even discernible. So, not everything in the collection bears repeated listens, although it's interesting that the flattest moments actually come from the 1993 reunion -- and are, as such, the most hi-fi things in sight. Whether the original Velvets rehearsed regularly or not, in concert their every movement appeared to be a step into the absolute unknown. Reformed, there was no room for any kind of unexpected maneuver, and so they recite "The Gift" with weary familiarity, or plod through "Hey Mr Rain" like they left their umbrellas at home. Musically, it's exemplary. Spiritually, it's crushing. Such lowlights, however, are the exception. Regardless of quality, the performances from 1966-1970 (and 1972) not only capture some scintillating highs, they represent a band going hell-for-leather toward a level of artistic accomplishment which even they were only partially aware of -- and whose actual significance would not be realized for years to come. A murderous mystery indeed. **Dave Thompson, All Music Guide**

The FLAC files are tagged with as much information as possible. If you're converting to another format your best bet is probably gonna be to burn 4 CDs from these here FLAC files and then let CDDB do the tagging for you.

Notes by the taper:
A great recording made leaning against the barrier at the back of the very front pit. I had a circle of about 5 foot of space around me so there's very little audience noise on this one. The first few songs were a bit bass-heavy over the PA but this soon clears up after the first few songs and the sound quality drastically improves. It sounds great on my Hi-Fi at home so I haven't added any eq. or processing.

Comments
Some really funny bits with Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend here. All alternate versions of songs, studio outtakes and one Live uknown source. This is a classic Who bootleg.

"Upgrades From The Boxed Set". This is actually a pretty neat CD. Keith Moon continues his madcap spoofs we got a taste of on the "30 Years Maximum R&B" box set. These are, with the exception of Tommy's Holiday Camp, all studio cuts and include some humorous band banter between the cuts. "Melancholia" is The Who's version different from Pete Townsend's Scoop version. Tommy's Holiday Camp is live from an unknown source but appears to be from TKAA/Kilburn era judging from the sound. I Am The Sea & The Real Me is a Who version I have never heard before. It is a bit slower and the brass in the background is more prominent than on any known demo version. Pete's guitar parts are also played differently than on any known versions. One Life's Enough is a Roger Daltrey "crooner" that could have well, fit well with either of his solo LP's Daltrey or One Of The Boys. Overall a great bootlege cd for any Who fan.
