Notes on the transfer and quality -
*I did not try to 'improve' the sound of these low-fidelity home recordings in any way from the CD of the 'unedited' version of the tapes.
*What I did do was trying to adjust the pitch, which is hard to do when the solo performer re-tunes his guitar all the time ...
*I performed some minor edits in spots where there seemed to be an unnecessary cut in the original transfer to re-create the seamless flow.
*I re-tracked the whole thing, trying to reflect, but not necessarily sticking to, the existing tracklistings.
*"The low-quality tape was made surreptitiously in the early 70s and the original is of course not much better than the bootlegs".
*The version of the McKenzie Tapes found on "I Was Young When I Left Home" is edited and missing several minutes. The sound may
be a bit easier on the ear. I have no idea what 'enhancement' was applied, but the tracks definitely have been processed in some way.
*The difference in quality between this tape and the six tracks from "The Smith Tapes" [Smith was an alias to hide the identity of the
McKenzies when the tapes first circulated, in the early 70s] is painfully big. It is almost incredible how good these sound,
additionally the original tapes seem to be in stereo. Let's hope that we ALL get to hear the complete thing !!

Notes on the recording dates -
=First McKenzie Tape=
*tracks 01-15 - The November 23, 1961 date (Thanksgiving) has been confirmed,
amongst others by Eve McKenzie (The Telegraph #36, p.29-40).
*tracks 16-22 - The December 4, 1961 date was established by Michael Krogsgaard, though,
according to Clinton Heylin, A Life In Stolen Moments, p.24, "there is no evidence such a seesion took place".
*GBS_01 and GBS_02 are dated January 29, 1962 in the sleeve notes of  "The Genuine Bootleg Series, Vol.3".
That date is backed by Heylin, A Life In Stolen Moments, p.26, nontheless 'Hard Times In New York Town' is
almost certainly the version that already circulated as fragment, dated November 23, 1961 !
*It could well be that both segments were recorded on that Thanksgiving dinner, surely the mood near the end of the first part
hints at the more collaborative efforts of part two. It's not unlikely that 'This Land Is Your Land' was performed twice. Who knows ...
*'The Death Of Emmett Till' was clearly not written by November 1961, but rather in January 1962, so the January 29 date
seems as good as any other. If so, no other recordings from that date seem to circulate right now.

=Second McKenzie Tape=
*commonly, tracks 01-07 are dated September 1962 and the remainder April 12, 1963 (or April 18, see below) with 'I Rode Out One Morning'
attributed to the second part. I do think, however, that 'I Rode Out One Morning' belongs to the first segment because to my ears,
01:55 to 02:10 of d2t03 has Dylan toying with the picking of the same song without adding vocals. I think it's highly unlikely that the only two
existing fragments of  the song were recorded months apart, both at the McKenzie's home.
*It has long been assumed that the second part of the tape was recorded in the afternoon of April 12, 1963, just a couple of hours before his
important solo appearance in New York's Town Hall. This seems to be highly unlikely, also in light of Columbia's files, which mention
a 4:00 pm soundcheck at Town Hall. Indeed, Heylin (p.43) now gives April 18, 1963 as the probable date. Alas, no evidence is provided
 with this information.

Notes on the musical content -
*some of the tracks named 'instrumental' are in fact doodles and endless tunings. Additionally, d2t10 and d2t16 are merely sketches of
'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' and 'Cocaine Blues', respectively.
*Bjrrner names d2t15 'Two Trains Runnin'', Dundas d2t15 'Still A Fool' and d2t16 'Worried Blues'. I can't hear any of this but I might me wrong.
*GBS_01 'Hard Times In New York Town' is almost certainly the version that already circulated as fragment d1t02
*Until now, all reference books mention two versions of both 'Katy Cline' and 'Bells Of Rhymney' at the start of the second part
of the first tape. But a close listen revealed that these version are just fragments of the longer tracks d1t17 and d1t18. I think that 'Katy Cline'
(Dundas) fits that track better than 'Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms' (Bjrrner, Krogsgaard).
*d2t07 is sometimes referred to as 'Times Ain't What They Used To Be' by Clarence 'Tom' Ashley. In fact, that is the first line of  'James Alley
Blues'... Either way, this seems to have been an inspiration for his own 'Mixed-Up Confusion'.

This is something all you blues fans are gonna need in your collection. This is a LONG Show !!!!! 2 hours and 20 minutes.. Nearly Complete. What we have here is another Gem that's been hidden away for over 20 years and hasn't seen the light of day, until now. This one is dedicated too and uploaded by request for the taper himself. This is a HOT show folks. Ken sat front and center in front of Buddy. What your hearing is the sound coming off the stage, along with a well mixed PA system. Any Noise you hear in the back ground during the quiet spots, is not tape or mic hum, but rather it is coming from the amplifiers on stage and/or a fan blowing on stage. It is Hot in August in Long Island, so i can imagine there being a fan running.

Notes about this recording:
Track 3 has a tape cut @ 3:45 mark. not sure why it was stopped and started.
The tape was also stopped briefly at the end of track 10. no music missing.
Track 25 just runs out of tape. I checked Side D and it was blank.

This show took place on the first night of the Chicago Blues Festival. This show also feathured a brief 15 minute showing of the blues documentary "Born In Chicago" The announced line-up for the show was awesome. Then came CBR. This was a great show with musicians many of us grew up loving and listening to their music. These guys also brought out Sam Lay, Charlie Musselwhite, Eric Burden,Elvin Bishop, and special guests like Lonnie Brooks and Shemekia Copeland. It was an awesome night of blues from white blues musicians of the 60's and some of their own heroes.

You can watch some videos of the show on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/lordofthemosh

From Promotional Ad
"Born in Chicago is a film that chronicles the story of the early 1960's where a small group of white teenage musicians went to Chicago's toughest neighborhoods to learn the blues. These kids were treated like sons by the likes of Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters and later went on to make some of most influential and popular albums of the 20th century. Now they come together to the Windy City on June 6 to perform all of their greatest hits for the Born in Chicago movie Premier Party. The Chicago Blues Reunion Band featuring Corky Siegel, Harvey "the snake" Mandel, Barry Goldberg and Nick "the greek" Graventies will perform along with special guests Charlie Musselwhite, Elvin Bishop, Eric Burdon, Sam Lay and some very special surprise guests. June 6 at the Vic will be a historic. A super extended clip of the Born in Chicago documentary film to be shown prior to the concert for the very first time. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Chicago's Coalition for the Homeless.

Master - Audience recording

Equipment: Zoom H4N - Sound professional microphones SP-CMC-8 -SP-SPSB-8 Sound Professionals Mini Battery Module

Parking-location: in front of the Gebäude 9 - going over to the main venue by bike
Catering (due to massive requests and protests!!): one bottle of mineral water, a vegetarian curry-wurst and
half a vegetarian hamburger with curry-sauce
Weather-conditions: outside the venue: hot and sunny, about 24° - inside the venue: hot, not so sunny, about 28°

Location: exact 4,86 meters from the stage, 3rd row, a bit left, on the "Poncho"-position.
The exact position was (again due to massive requests in the past, by the way!) found
out from another taper-hero and legend (the Beaver) who accompagnied me that evening and had a Geodreieck with
him and checked that out. He also told the people around me to be quiet in his sympathic and friendly way (three
people now are found in hospital, four lost only one tooth and..) so I could record most of the time easily. He left
his place one time to buy a Kölsch and - you know, what must have happened then...!!?

Sound-quality: excellent (-), one or two times there's an enthusiastic fan (maybe a Minimax) shouting or "singing"
Sound in the hall during the concert: excellent
The Hall: a big big big big crap!!

Tapers-critic of this concert: this was my third "Alchemy"-concert, but the first one I recorded so I did not
rush up to the rail in the front-row. You can hear that in several quiet songs as Poncho is howling as he's missing
me that much standing right in front of him!! Sorry, Frank!!
The "Alchemy"-tour is so well known up here I don't have to write anything about it. Strange, great show.
The Beaver and I were sure by going over there to get another well known setlist. As I wanted to be very early in the
hall we split before and met later again. I rushed in, the Beaver strolled a bit into town and also into that huge
cathedral, called the Kölner Dom, sat there for quiet a while, praised to the holy ghost for "making something with
the setlist" and - you see what happended later!!

During "Singer without a song" a drunk woman came over next to us, just when the Beaver wasn't my security guy,
completely lost control and talked a lot of bullshit. I hope it can be heard very clear, as it might entertain you
a lot. Then, after a short two minutes at Ramada In she quit and was never seen again. Beaver, never ever do that again!!

Here we have the New Order set from Jodrell Bank on what was a glorious day out in the Cheshire countryside. This certainly made a change from my last outdoor concert back in 2007 when I watched The Charlatans at another Cheshire location, Delamere Forsest, and it rained from start to finish. Funnily enough The Charlatans were playing the Delamere again on the same night. Jodrell Bank houses the Lovell telescope which is the which is the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world which came in handy as projector screen. Anyway, New Order as ever nowadays were in a good mood and played nearly 2 hours in what was an enjoyable performance for.

Per http://setlists.pattismithlogbook.info/ there were 2 shows on this date; it is unknown if this recording is from the first or the second show.

*Notes*
The original posting was a significant upgrade from a previous version, I'm extremely pleased with this version. All the sources are partial and remastered. Plugins used: Sony Wave Hammer 1.0a and Sony Noise Reduction 2.0h.

Both sources used for the first 6 seconds faded in; I raised the levels to 'unfade' them, and fixed some noise that became audible in doing so.

During the talk between the first two songs, t1 between 2:48 and 3:11 the levels had jumped up too high so I lowered them to match.

Source 1 of this complete "best" version is the excellent-SQ version in circulation. It's 42 minutes long, but unfortunately the last 10 minutes are corrupted by digital noise and distortion, so here it is patched with other sources. Source 1 was remastered (particularly towards the end of the uncorrupted part, for 1 minute 2 seconds starting 1 second into Louie Louie) to balance level drops, with special attention to many spots where I improved levels or the mix.

Source 3 is the last 22:31 (from the middle of Pumping to the end), where it sounds better than Source 2. I patched a glitch on Source 3 with Source 2 t12@7:01

Source 2 (53:56) was patched by Vineland from other sources. I used Source 2 to patch numerous gaps in Source 1, mostly between songs (I'll speculate that many of these gaps might be the result of edits before the rebroadcast). The gaps are: the first 5 seconds, 5 seconds@2:16, 6 seconds@2:26, 5 seconds@6:36, 0.2 seconds patching diginoise@27:08, 14 seconds@30:09, 36 seconds@32:16, and 55 seconds@33:05
Most of the gaps weren't obvious, including the 14 seconds@30:09 in the middle of Pale Blue Eyes.

A great show for the Stones' return at Hyde Park...after a scary moment when Keith flubbed the Start Me Up intro (scarf in the way?). Like on the Glastonbury recording, there is some "shifting" in the stereo balance. It was noticeable at the show but a bit less than on the recording, sorry about that. notes
First off this work is dedicated to the tapers and their generosity in making this happen. The mission for this was to make a recording that sounds like you are in the middle of the sweet spot of the stadium.

Processes as follows:
Bakerstuff was used as the primary source as it had very direct sound. Unfortunately it suffered from 2 people that were constantly screaming. A full master was done within protocols using primarily a 7 band parametric and light multband to add definition to the vocals and bass, and finally a subsonic filter to get the low stuff that was just adding mud to the sound. From that, the track was duplicated and applied a high pass filter at 600hz for use as a bottom end filler for Chrisí version.
Chrisí version was used for ambience, as the taping position was further back. First step is to run in a harmonic balancer and match the sound of Bakersí version from 600hz through 3k for the filler track during Bakers screamers. Duplicating the track, and narrowing the stereo image to 80% took some of the distance sound out of it to use as the ambience track.
The IEM obviously is used for vocals. The first step with it was to filter the click track, but because of the style of click it could not be completely removed. Then using eq and aural exciter to fill it out a give it a more natural sound. The big problem with this source was the receiver used to pull it in would loose the frequency every now and again causing static, so this could not be used at all times.
The last third of the show the wind came up and affected both audience sources at times. I filtered it as best as possible, but since it was so wide across the low and mid frequencies total removal resulted in a very thin sound, so in these areas I used a high pass to at least get the big rumble reduced.
On to the mixing. Bakers source was set to ñ6db, Chrisí to ñ12db and the IEM to ñ4db as base settings. I crossed the two duplicate tracks as fills for each of the main tracks to remove the screamers.
This process took 6 months of on and off work, and unfortunately was not fully completed, as the engineering staff at work decided to upgrade the software and it somehow corrupted the file. Due to the complexity of the mix it was impossible to rebuild it and keep going (there are well over 1000 automations).Fortunately I had done a mixdown just to see how things were going. All that was left was the little tweaks, so itís not that devastating.
The final mastering was done on Audition2 using a five band parametric for pre, muliband compressor to really level things out. I set the multiband very mildly to mainly use it as a soft limiter to keep the sound from getting out of hand. The final phase was a 1/3 octave for final smoothing.
Cheering between encores is pulled up.

Not quite a perfect sbd - levels fade in and out a little in places, but a damn fine show. If you like your Van mean, moody and magnificent, this aint the one for that, this is Van at his funky soulful in your face best. He declares to the band at the end of burning ground 'Keep the level low my voice has gone' but you wont notice as he nails every song. The band is spot on, you will love this boot. Its not the complete show - you make me feel so free and sweet thing were played at the start but not included here

Review by Jon Strand:
Soundboard recording with great separation between voices and the various instruments.

Van and everyone are in great voice (I have never heard Brian Kennedy stronger and more soulful. Actually, I've never connected Brian Kennedy with "soulful" before, but it's certainly true here.)

The horns play wonderfully throughout, both on solos and ensemble work. The whole band is very tight (and loose.) Very "on:" Van calling out the song titles to the band. Dedicating "That's Life" to Frank Sinatra ("lest we forget.") "Whenever God Shines His Light" becomes "Whenever (Sir) Cliff Shines His Light." Great intro to "Man's World."

This is one of the live CDs that make you keep looking for others out there. A great performance, well captured.

Notes:
If you have Nights Of The Living Icons, you can hear the same performance of "Fire In The Belly," but from the audience point of view.

Notes
This remaster should be considered an upgrade to the PRRPSAE 05 version. More advanced software and techniques were used during this project. A great deal of time was devoted to repairing or removing as many clicks, pops and other tape errors as possible, using non-destructive techniques. The audience noise and loud claps were more extensively addressed in this version. *18 segments were found to have an abrupt, audible amplitude boost of 3-6dB. The volume of the sound and the hiss both clearly increased in these segments. These were corrected, eliminating this distraction. **The recording system made frequent adjustments to record volume such as attenuation after a loud clap. These were corrected as much as possible. ***The crowd was very enthusiastic that night. Frequently yells, loud claps and whistles were present during the songs. Where present, they were repaired or attenuated as much as possible. Most applause found between songs was left unaltered.
****Remove redundant sections and track as continuous show. Suggested CD Burn: CD1 Tracks 1-9, CD2 Tracks 10-14

Stunning sound and a focused, deliberate performance combine to make this a highlight of the extant acoustic sets. A smooth recording that captures Dylan in what seems to be a more mellow, "stoned" mood than Sydney. The trio of electric tracks, full-bodied and well-balanced recordings, make for some great listening. The Adelaide interview is interesting.

Notes by the uploader/trader:
This is a slightly mixed version of a pre-FM download, albeit with 1969 added in (it was missing from the download version). This latter version was clearer but had very excessive treble, with a little apparent treble distortion. This noise does seem to stem from the original recording, as I noticed it was there in the background on my tape version, but buried under tape hiss (which isn't bad on my original seed, but it is there). I have mixed this to reduce that treble noise so that now I find it an ideal match between my original tape version - slightly hissy, but very gutsy - and the clearer version - very clear, too much treble / treble noise. I think this sounds very good now, as good as the KBFH (official) CD version of the Boston Channel 1988 concert to my ears.

This is the famous appearance of Iron Maiden on Beat Club, a German weeklty TV show in the '70's/early '80's that also featured bands like Saxxon, Dokken, April Wine and....ABBA. The band plays live for a 1/2 hour in front of a studio audience and seems a bit nervous. They make quite a few mistakes throughout the set. Nonetheless, it's a great, energetic show from Maiden in what I consider their best period.
