Notes:

At one point John mentions that he played these shows, perhaps a 3 day run, with Jorma Kaukonen. Jorma is on every NAB list know to humans (and probably a few others, just for good measure! HA!), however, if anyone happens to have a recording from any of these shows, PLEASE PM me about a possible trade. PLEASE… Anyone…

Those of you who are blues fans will probably recognize many of these songs. "Jockey Blues" is a very interesting and different Big Joe Turner cover. The first time I heard it I was pretty stunned that it's the same song. "Statesboro Blues" is a cover of the great Willie McTell's famous composition. "Drifting Blues" is a nice Charles Brown cover. Those more oriented toward rock than blues will likely know "Come On In My Kitchen" as a Doors song. And "Dust My Broom," of course, is an Elmore James cover, another stunningly great slide guitarist. I won't go on. All in all, this is a wonderful recording of a fabulous modern blues artist.

MD5 and the original text file included. I have not included this intro as I made only minor alterations to the original text file (which remains unchanged) to create this intro. Unlike my typical upload, however, you will NOT be getting all of what I got. Here's why: Included with this download were 10 files that are, as far as I can tell, completely unnecessary. Here is an example of one of the titles - "john hammond 1986-03-14 PII 01.flac.part." It appears to me to be part of a download. I play all of these songs without those 10 files without any problems, and they take up a lot of what I consider valuable space. They are actually larger than the "complete" FLACs. I really hope I haven't screwed up. I'm pretty much a tech know-nothing. I'm doing it so as not to waste YOUR valuable bandwidth. Gulp...

Real good show but the place is set up like a big factory and the sound echoes in there and gets lost way up in the a/c ducks. show sounds real nice but if the place was set up better it would of been a killer recording sound wise . Also the music is so loud that it kinda over powers joes vocal pa's so his vocals get lost in the songs that real kick ass

Rush on a saturday night in Anaheim, California. We were in section 225, few rows off the floor, even with the sound board. Had some really nice sound from this location. The crowd around us was pretty well behaved (most figured out we were recording) and the recording reflect this. The limiter on the recording controlled the couple of stage explosions during the show really well.

Comments:
VGP released a 4-CD set with two completely mixes of the same show -- from Yokohama, Japan March 12, 2003. The first two discs consisted only of a remastered recording of Mick's IEM feed; anyone who is familiar with IEM knows that these are frequently a very "imperfect" mix, to say the least. Discs 3 and 4 were a matrix of a good audience recording and the arena's ALD feed (who knew they had ALD in Japan????), a version which (in my opinion) was dramatically better. This torrent consists of ONLY discs 3 & 4 from the set -- to be honest, I didn't even keep the IEM (which means I can't torrent it, unfortunately).

Sound quality is great, particularly during the quiet parts. It's evident that the raw ALD recording is pretty good and relatively free of dropouts (or if there are any, they were covered up nicely during the editing process). There aren't really any big surprises in the setlist, but it's always nice to hear less-frequently played tracks like "Loving Cup" and "Mannish Boy." This is a good one to pick up if you're a Stones fan but not necessarily a completist; hardcore fans probably already have this (or if they don't, I imagine they will be posting requests for discs 1 & 2 in the comments).

live and direct FM radio broadcast by "Radio2 Live", Radio2 RAI [second channel of italian national radio] from Piazza Napoleone, Lucca (Italy) on thusday 21 July 2011, 21:35 hours

WARNING: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording ONLY FOR COMPLETISTS. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging.

A total of 5 sources have been used for this merge; The Sbd source from "Stages", the Sbd source from the "Jimi Hendrix At The Atlanta Pop Festival" VHS, the Stereo Aud source, the Sbd Space mix, plus a non-Space mix Sbd version of "Message To Love"?- The "Stages" and VHS soundboards have fake audience noise loops - including booing loops throughout the concert. These have all been deleted in this merge.?- Only "Red House", "All Along The Watchtower" and "Hey Joe" are taken from the VHS video.?- The Audience recording contains the most accurate atmosphere of the actual concert and thus the merge has been built around it.?- Only the end of "Freedom", "Foxy Lady" and the beginning of "Purple Haze" are missing on the Aud source.?- The Space mix has no fake audience noises but has ugly reverb added to it (hence 'space' mix). This source has been used as 'in between song banter' filler - especially on the parts not recorded by the audience tape - and to fill the gaps left due to the deletion of the 'fake audience noises'.?- The featured version of "Message to Love" is the only available Sbd version without echo, and is actually in itself a merge.?- This 3 source merge runs the Aud Source, the Sbd source and the Space mix simultaneously from "Message To Love" to the end.?- All tracks prior to "Message To Love" are identical to
those featured in version 1.0 of this merge.

Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy Sun and Rainbows - Studio Tapes (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

A 3-disc collection of available studio recordings from the Gypsy Suns and Rainbows. These recordings date from late August to mid-September 1969, a period of a little over two weeks. The recordings all likely took place at the Hit Factory except for the last track (from the Record Plant). Shortly afterwards Jerry and Larry left the group, and the ensemble that played at Woodstock was only a memory.

There's nothing unexpected in this collection; all of the tracks are readily available on scores of discs. The versions included here are the best quality copies circulating, and they've been checked and corrected for technical issues including pitch, phase offset, and digital errors.

Together with the Shokan tapes and the complete Woodstock live concert, these complete the coverage of the brief existence of the GSR.

Notes by the taper

My Sony ECM-DS70P appears to have died, so I used the built in mics on the Zoom and was pleasantly surprised. The sound in the theater
was a little bassy and very low on high end. I eq'd a little high end into the mix and it sounds very nice. The seat next to me was empty, so I stuck my coat on the chair and the zoom on top of the coat. Crowd was nice and quiet during the music.

Recorded in the 7th row about 15 feet house left of center. Powers Auditorium is an old majestic theater that appears to have been restored fairly recently and is the home to the Youngstown
Symphony.

Transferred and uploaded by mjk5510 (October 2012)

This show has circulated under the following date: January 27, February 27,

February 28, February 1979 and March 1979.

This transfer comes from my 1st generation cassette I traded for in the

early-mid 80's via a Japanese trader. The date written on the tape sent to me
was 1979-03-02, 03-03.

I have found the following dates for the Japanese leg of the 1979 tour:

2/27/79 Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan
3/1/79 Kanagawa-Kenmin Hall, Kanagawa, Japan
3/2/79 Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan
3/3/79 Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan
3/5/79 Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan

I have a CDR copy of the show I traded for at some point dated February 28 but

it has a small amount of dialogue edited out and has some very hard/sloppy edits
as well as an overall harshness to the sound.

It appears to be unconfirmed if this show came from only the March 3rd show or the March 2nd and 3rd show. I have listed it as March 2nd and 3rd due to the tape I received from the master.

There appear to be multiple versions circulating so hopefully this verified

lineage version will be an upgrade for some or a first copy for others who may
have missed any past versions.
I have not heard all versions circulating but this is excellent quality with
just a small touch of hiss between songs, it has a well balanced rich sound…

Linda really shines throughout as does her always excellent band, I'm not sure I've heard her in better voice or with this much passion.

Great set, great show...

Tape story:

The venue is an amazing square (the central square of Modena listed since 1997 as UNESCO World Heritage Property).
Strangely the concert was confirmed in this old square after the Emilia earthquake (differently from Radiohead in Bologna and Kasabian in Ferrara that were moved from the relevant central squares).
I have located myself in front of the left stack, about 15 m from the stage.
Not more people were around me and also very quiet.
The sound is extremely very good. Imho one of the best recordings I have ever done.

What about the show?

It was my fourth Simple Minds concert (the previous were in Milan 1984, Reggio Emilia 1986 and again Milan February 2012... 26 years later!!!) and I enjoyed a lot.
Of course I would have preferred more to attend a 5x5 full set than the proposed 5x5 + hits set since I still remember the 28th February 2012 concert as a very special event.
The band appeared in very good form and Jim Kerr spoke more in Italian than English
(with a very special appreciation of the Italian ice-cream that someone was eating in a cafè/restaurant in front of the stage during "Don't You (Forget About Me)").

Technical notes:

- The total running time of the recording was 02:00:17; I have cut the first 7:50 min and the last 1:30 min (pre-recorded music) reducing the master to 1:50:57

1. Repair Click, pops and excessive audience claps/noise in each source.
2. Adjust frequencies/EQ in each source using dynamic filters where needed.
3. Correct/Match speed and pitch of each. comparing to references
4. Complete each source by using the other to patch missing sections.
5. Synchronize sources and blend to create stereo image.
6. Correct phasing.
7. Center sound and focus stereo image.
8. Adjust dynamics and correct peak suppressions
9. Track as continuous show, as performed.

Notes:
A few mistakes are made by Steve Howe during The Ancient. Some whistles and yells can be heard in each source suggesting that the tapers were not too far from each other.

A note from Balrog:
The first time I tried to create a two-source stereo recording from the audience was in the early 1980s, when I had separate recordings of a Moody Blues show made from opposite sides of the upper loge in Boston Garden. I couldn't keep it synchronized for more than a few seconds at a time but the stereo image I heard in my headphones was incredible. I felt like my head was the size of Boston Garden and I could hear things that no single person could hear from anywhere in the venue.

This two-source stereo recording from the same location doesn't have as vast a stereo image but there's enough to make it much more enjoyable than either source alone. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts and I want to thank the "PRRP Guy" for having the skills and patience to make it possible. This upload brings new life to a tour that has never been known for excellent audience recordings. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Just to avoid any possible confusion, a two-source stereo recording is synchronized in the same manner as a matrix recording but the channels are discrete rather than left overlaid on left and right overlaid on right.

Welcome back to the fourth in a series of releases from the ER Archives, the collection of an active '70s taper and trader who stepped away from collecting, leaving his tapes pretty much dormant until now. We're still culling through the archive, but it is clear that it contains previously uncirculated shows as well as upgrades to circulating tapes, both audience and soundboard. ER used high-end tape decks and good tape, so his copies of even well-known shows may well be improvements.

Installment four is, for my money, a material upgrade of an under-appreciated show: the Allen Theatre, April 7, 1976. It is night No. 9 on the Chicken Scratch tour and the first soundboard recording of a post-75 performance (CORRECTION, THERE IS A PARTIAL SOUNDBOARD RECORDING OF APRIL 4). It was this show and recording of "Frankie" that I first fell in love with. I played this tape in heavy rotation when I first obtained a copy in the mid-80s.

It has been bootlegged a few times and torrented too, though it never seems to make any list of favorites which I find surprising. Why? Well, beyond being the best '76 recording of the sublime "Frankie," it captures another uber-rarity of the period, the resurrected "Blinded By the Light," which is utterly delightful. Bruce says they haven't done it in three years but will "for Kid Leo," the influential Cleveland DJ who was an early supporter of the band.

And there's more to like in this set list: the always passionate "It's My Life," "Incident on 57th Street" (played for the first time since September 1975; it cuts but what's there is great), a ripping "Backstreets" and a spirited duo of "Growin' Up" into a sizzling "Saint in the City."

So the set list can't be at issue, and the performance is strong, so perhaps it has always been the recording. This board tape has never been considered A-list, but I think the ER version (surely the lowest generation source to circulate) is excellent and as strong if not stronger than any other '76 board.

Close listening reveals bits of rarely heard off-mic chatter, unusual clarity in areas like the sound of Max's foot-pedal playing on the high-hat and one of the best Garry Tallent mixes on any '70s board. We did spend some time in the mastering lab pulling out clicks and taming what had always been overly bright sound. You can judge for yourself if it merits reconsideration. Samples provided.

There are a few cuts: "Incident" fades out after 6'15", the last few minutes of "Rosalita" were not captured and "Quarter to Three" is joined slightly in progress. But what is there is strong and some of it quite unusual, which is what has always made the Allen Theatre special to me, and I hope now to you as well.

Thanks to the ER Archive for opening up the vault doors and sharing this recording with the fans. Feel free to let him know how you feel in the comments.

The ER Archive will return.

I had not seen this wonderful, all-star band since the late 80's, and wondered how they would sound 20+ years later. All I can say is WOW!! This was easily one of the top 5 shows I have experienced this year. The band performed their debut album in it's entirety tonight, much to my delight. The crowd was enthusiastic, but respectful. An occasional woowoo guy, and whistle here and there, but does not detract from this performance/recording. The venue's mix was great, and John's voice is strong as ever. The venue has these strange inflatable balloons on the ceiling and the fans used to keep them inflated can be heard during the really quiet parts, strange little buzz. Other than that is raw, pure, and highly crankable!! I will never forget this evening!!

This must be one of the first DSD bootleg around, and it's a surprisingly clear audience. DSD is a (not so) recent hi definition audio format used for production, and now available also for portable recorders. The original DFF files are amazing, but I am not sure that a lot of people could be able to play them through a DSD DAC. If there is enough request I may consider to seed the originals.

The first stop was supposed to be the Outremont Theatre in Montreal, but that concert was cancelled because Miles decided to attend the heavyweight championship bout between George Foreman en Joe Frazier. Many people did split from massey Hall after the first set.

Tape story:
The venue is at the main Milan horse track (thoroughbred horse racing) near San Siro stadium.
I have located myself in front of the right stack, about 20 m from the stage.
Many people were around me and, unfortunately, some of them used Stone Roses' Reunion Tour music as a background for their conversation.
Anyway the sound is good-to-very good, with only occasional screaming and clapping always in time with music.

What about the show?
It was my first The Stone Roses concert and I enjoyed a lot, but I was disappointed with its short duration.
"Something's Burning", for example, even if still listed in available setlist was definitely not played.
The gig was part of the first edition of a new Milan summer festival (City Sound) held at the Ippodromo del Galoppo.
The setlist is mainly based on the first album and related stuff. Only 2 songs from Second Coming.
"Fools Gold" itself is worth the ticket price.

Technical notes:
- The total running time of the recording was 1:28:10; I have cut the first 2:40 mins (The Supremes' Stoned Love used as intro music) and the last useless 40 secs reducing the master to 1:24:49
- I have amplified the whole recording (+7.0 dB on the left channel, +11.0 dB on the right channel), faded-in and faded-out the first and last 10 secs
- If you burn to audio CD, you will need 2 CDs (CD1: 01-08; CD2: 09-15)
