Notes by the taper
Since the original recording was made with Dolby B on, which adds 10dB boost to the high frequencies, yet the playback was done without Dolby B on (which would have cut the high frequencies by 10dB) I took the liberty of applying some very slight noise (hiss) reduction using BIAS Sound Soap. If anyone wants the recording without this processing please contact me and I'd be happy to oblige. I usually am against offering original recordings with any processing but I was very light-handed here. I also recorded Ry Cooder at the Cabaret on August 5, 1984. About half the songs they did were the same. That has been and someday again may be a (separate) torrent TRT just under 90 minutes. The venue for this show was The Cotati Cabaret in Cotati, CA. It was a small club that held about 300 people. Cotati is a small town located about an hour north of San Francisco.

Notes by the taper
A great night of music and a wonderful recorded document! Santana turned 65 on July 20, yet he played a high-energy concert that lasted almost 2 hours and 45 minutes. Wow!!! There was no opening act - just pure Santana.

I had a seat that was just a few feet from being directly in line with the right stack of speakers. This, combined with quiet folks around me, makes for a great and enjoyable recording. The Omnis really do a nice job of representing all of the diverse sounds heard over the course of the evening. I personally am glad that Santana played many of his older and/or jam-oriented (and less pop) songs. He just has so many good ones to choose from. So after you download this show, close your eyes and prepare to go on a musical journey that will make you smile.

As always, this recording is to be traded freely and NEVER SOLD. Enjoy the show and, if you attended, relive the music! Be sure to see Santana if you can and buy his music.

"In 1979 Eric Clapton put his band in a three-carriage train andtraveled from town to town throughout Europe, from one concert to thenext. It was an easy way to transport and house the band and itsequipment, and it offered ample opportunity for interviews, groupinteractions, and filming. Clapton talks about his music and his workand peaks the viewer's interest with stories about musicians like JimiHendrix and George Harrison. Interviews are balanced with performancesby Muddy Waters, Elton John, and George Harrison, as well as Claptonand his band in full concert."

This extremely rare (and sought after) film is not great, but it isvery interesting and revealing. The film acts as a very good andnon-glamerous portrait of a band on the road and captures Clapton atthe height of his alcohol addiction. It paints a very unflatteringpicture of the rock legend who is intoxicated for the entire film. Atone point Clapton and his crew play a very cruel joke on a Frenchjournalist who interviews and photographs Eric's American securityguard Larry Mcneny, believing him to be Clapton.

The highlights of the film are the alcohol influenced interviews withthe fragile and insecure guitarist. In them he talks about his career, his relationship with Patti Boyd and the writing of the song `Layla'(which Patti herself also comments on). The most revealing andbeautifully "real" moments of the documentary come when Clapton speaksin-depth about the night that Jimi Hendrix died and his anger towardHendrix for leaving him all alone in this world. He also discusses hisaudiences, their response to his music and the insecurities he feelswhen they walk out while he is playing.

As I already stated, this is not a great film, but it does show a sideof rock 'n' roll and more specifically Clapton that most people don'tget to see. A completely open and sympathetic Clapton, as well as rareconcert footage, make this documentary a must for any fan.

After watching Rolling Hotel I can see why Clapton never wanted thisfilm to see the light of day. The footage shows off Clapton’s masteryof his instrument, as well as his raging alcohol problem. There aremoments of brilliance, such as Clapton and Patti Harrison talking aboutLayla. But there are also absolute train wrecks (no pun?), like theopening number, Smile, during which Clapton can barely stand.

My favorite parts of the documentary are the interviews with Clapton.
Slowhand opens up in a way I had never seen before. The best musicalfootage comes towards the end of the DVD when Clapton plays a ragingCocaine before he is joined by George Harrison and Elton John for aglorious Further On Up The Road. Other tunes featured on the DVDinclude Lay Down Sally, Badge, and a few renditions of Layla. Thereisn’t much footage of Clapton from the ’70s, so grab this release.

Missing: Beauty and the Beast, Stay, Rebel Rebel

Received in a tape trade many years ago, this is a pretty good sounding show from the '78 tour. The Bowie Concert Tapes book does not mention this tape so I believe it surfaced later. It's really clear at least to my ears, not a lot of hiss on this show. For description purposes, in the first set Fame is cut in half, Beauty and the Beast is missing altogether. The second set is intact including the Band Intros, and for encores there is only TVC-15, meaning no Rebel Rebel or Stay. The transfer is raw, it would seem maybe a few songs are slow. I really couldn't figure it out as I bounced around, as Bowie's voice sounds in tune, but the tempos are a bit slower. From the Blackout archives. Enjoy!!

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER this previously uncirculated treasure is now being shared with Bruce Springsteen fans worldwide! The Bottom Line Shows are legendary and for those wondering if a recording of the August 13th, 1975 show would ever surface, the wait is finally over! For a fan who was there in those early days, Mr Anonymous can tell you what it was like:

"The story of Bruce's early days has been documented many times, most recently in the current New Yorker magazine. As described therein, Bruce's five night, ten show stint at The Bottom Line was crucial to launching his third album, Born to Run. Many executives at Columbia Records were frustrated with Bruce's lack of commercial success and Born to Run was likely his last chance with the label. Columbia reportedly bought a quarter of the 500 seats for each show to distribute among music industry people to help spread the word. Even so, tickets did not sell out immediately and a week after going on sale they were available for any of the shows. That all ended when the public heard WNEW’s broadcast of show number 5. The next two nights, fans were lined up around the corner with the hope of getting a standing room spot at the bar to hear the new phenom.

This is the first recording of one of the late shows to surface. It is the first night and this tape captures all of the ambiance of this intimate club. You can hear each breath and whisper from Bruce while dishes and glasses are shuffled on the tables. Bruce seems to just appear behind the piano and gets a single reaction from the crowd as he opens solo with For You. It is evident how he captures the crowd more and more with each song. By the time he hits the 20 minute versions of Kitty's Back and New York City Serenade, he has them in his hands."

Notes by the taper
I included a couple minutes of the audience because a) that's when they began playing the background music that signaled the beginning of the show and b) I wanted to let people meet the babe who was standing next to me showing off her big wedding ring, and whose screaming is evident off to the side through much of the show (not loud enough to ruin the experience). I'm always supriswed at how well some of these shows turn out considering the fact I'm moving all over the place, dancing wildly to the music. My first order of business is total enjoyment of the show, while the recording is always secondary. I like to believe that DLR responded to my call to Eddie in the long opening of Everybody Wants Some!

This gig was one to remember, without a doubt. None of my friends like this guy. In fact, one even said that he was not interested in seeing a guy wank over his guitar. He was right. It was the usual Yngwie masturbating all over his guitar but you know what? It's the one time I can handle watching a guy masturbate! I expected it. I bought the ticket anyway, knowing this was going to be one wankfest I would actually enjoy and I definitely enjoyed it.

Sure Yngwie's soloing is self-indulgent and at times a bit too much, lacking musical depth to some but I seem to absorb its musical energy and feed it back out on my drum kit. I'm not sure what it is exactly. Perhaps it's my penchant for classical music in a rock setting and I am just a drummer at the end of the day!

Yngwie and his bandmates really set the stage on fire that night and from the mighty vocals of Doogie to the thundering metronomic precision of Jens, there was nothing I could possibly fault the band for. It was good solid neo-classical rock at its finest. I heard where Symphony X's Micahel Romeo got his influences from (another favourite band of mine) and perhaps that made me enjoy it all the more.

A long and gruelling tour didn't stop these guys from giving it their all. I'm sure you'll hear that for yourself.

On to the technical stuff, I'm not terribly impressed with this one given my location. My ticket purchasing skills back then left a lot to be desired. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if I ever did release this one but I did recently listen back to the master CD I engineered and I must admit, I was appalled with myself at the result. So, I was inspired to right the wrong by remastering this recording. Good thing I always keep the originals otherwise this never would have been salvageable!

So, having wound up at the far right, the best I could hope for was a decent mono mix from the PA. Thankfully, the sound guy did a mono mix. Unfortunately, it was far from a good mix. The main hi-hats are just way too bright and cutting, the midrange was a bit excessive from the guitars (perhaps at Yngwie's request) but lacking top-end, the vocals were reasonable though sometimes getting lost in the mix, the bass guitar lacked definition and Derek's keyboards were sometimes a little too bright depending on the patch used.

It was painful but I had to come to a compromise with the sound in order to get a better overall result. This one gets a C. Listen to the sample and be your own judge is all I can really say.

Original Notes:
This is a very nice audio recording; got this directly from the taper several years ago. The taper is a well-known but reclusive hardcore Who taper who followed them around the world during the mid-1970s through 1982; he had phenomenal equipment for the era (sorry, don't know what it was) and was known for pristine audio recordings. This one is no exception.

This date was sandwiched in between the notorious Cincinnati and the well-documented Chicago dates, so collectors who have either date can attest that they were in good form at this point of the tour. It's one of my favorites.

I couldn't generate a fingerprint; I couldn't figure out how to do it. I did re-convert some of the files back to WAV and all appeared okay.

Enjoy the show!

Additional Notes:
This is an excellent recording for any venue, let alone the Pontiac Silverdome. Roger even says They will return when the Joe is finished because the sound sucks at the Silverdome.

This was the first show after the tragedy in Cincinnati where 11 people were killed when the doors were opened for the general admission show. The band is still feeling the effects and plead with the crowd several times to take it easy. Roger says, "If anything happens we will never be able to look at our faces in the mirror." I was there but don't remember that LOL.

One of the best and most bootlegged Who shows from this era. It documents their transition from a "pop" band into hard rock jamming. Shakin' All Over is a very long jam that showcases PT's lead guitar styles and how well JAE is in tune to Pete's playing. Relax is another worthy psychedelic guitar jam. There are various versions of this show around that claim to be from different dates and slightly different set lists that at times omit Summertime Blues and / or the mini opera (A Quick One) and / or My Generation. Length: 153:01

A very unique Who show which starts as strong as the previous night's show. Things took a bad turn though when Pete sliced open his palm on his guitar strings while doing windmills at the end of Who Are You. He left the stage at the end of the song bleeding profusely and headed to the backstage area where 'a good ice-hockey man' sewed up his hand. 'I didn't feel a thing' no doubt due to the self medication he'd been working on. Meanwhile on stage, Roger initially said they'd take a break but instead stayed onstage to prove how lost they would be without Pete. After a jam which featured 2 drum solos and Roger on Pete's guitar (we're use to seeing Roger play guitar now, but in 1979 it just wasn't done!) Roger decided to lead the audience in a My Generation sing-along. He followed this doing the same with Magic Bus until Pete came back onstage to rejoin the action part way through. The improvisations during end of the main set and the encores reached a new extreme with Roger pulling in 'Please Don't Touch' and taking a stab at 'Sweets For My Sweet' before Pete would take over for a great version of 'Pretty Vacant' leading into 'Cat's in the Cupboard' and later in the encore the second appearance of 'Dance It Away'. This was the longest Who show until the 1989 tour.
